Ive been looking at these forums for a while. I am currently on day 4 with patches and now finding it easier than it was. I am not sure what changed in myself but i woke up and had a desire that i never wanted to smoke again. alcohol for me (same for some smokers) has been a thorn in my side as i always smoke a lot while drinking. I have had a few beers tonight and on the first beer the urge was very strong but didnt give in and haven't had many really strong urges since.
i would also like to say a big thanks to people on the forum who have posted and helped new quits like me understand about the addiction through links and support.

Welcome and well done you are looking to have a wonderful Christmas smoke-free. As you say you have been looking at posts and information, that's great, it is a major help to understand what happens when we stop, the great bit is it helps us to rid ourselves of the things we believed about smoking and aids us in staying stopped.
Hiya LP and welcome. Just like to add it helps a lot if you have no trouble accepting that you're not being deprived of anything. Everything you do from now on is going to be for yourself. Just go steady on the beers for a while and don't put yourself in a situation you may not be able to handle. I'm sure you'll do fine because it seems as if you want it enough. David
Well done you 4 days smoke free is great enjoy your smoke free Xmas, eat, drink and be merry but don't smoke
Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Currently on day 8 and still doing ok, a few cravings to contend with but dealt with. i have started taking the patches off at night however, as they do disrupt my sleep pattern some what.

Hoping everyone had a good christmas
Well done for giving up and just think at least you won't be outside in the cold New Year and you've already quit so your New Year's resolution is already in the bag.
It was leaving the patches on at night that was making my quit uncomfortable due to the lack of sleep i was getting.. once i took them off for sleep and re-applied new on in morning i found the quit became very manageable.
So best of luck, i really hope you get in the groove of your quit just nicely now, and wish you the success you seek. Good health will find you soon, and well being soon after.
I have only came on here tonight, I'm on 26 days and going cold turkey. I believe I've got this far because I want to.
It seems to me you have done the same and made the decision you want to quit and should be, "Londonproud".
Keep it up the great thing about this forum is up till tonight I felt alone. I'm surrounded by none smokers my wife has never smoked as my daughter. My son did smoke for a while but has quit months ago.
People who have never smoked don't have a clue what it's like to stop. And although they try to give every support they just don't know what we are going through.
So it's fantastic to come on here and talk to others who understand excactly what you are going through. So try hard keep away from the beers and know we all know what you're dealing with, well done
Wasn't entirely sure if i should start i new thread (as im now in the 3rd week) or not. Either way, after a busy last 5 days or so decided it was time for my next post.
Came off the patches 2 days ago as they do have problems sticking to my skin at times. I do have some spare just in-case i need to use them. There have been some tough days, but hopefully these will get more sporadic.
3 weeks...that's great! I think you hit the nail on the head in an earlier post stating that you just didn't want to smoke any more. My experience has been a little similar (although I'd have only hit 4 days in 15 mins). Other than symptoms of nicotine withdrawal (panic/anxiety/fatigue etc) I've not really had any issues...I mean that in terms of things that have made me want to smoke.
I look at all the above as being positive side effects of nicotine withdrawal.
