hello, i'm Kim and i have just stopped smoking!! Today is my first day, and has been a NIGHTMARE if i'm honest, but hopefully will be better tommorrow. I turned 25 on saturday and was determined to quit as i always said i would when i turned 25!! that creeped up on me quickly....! My main reason is my children, i have twins who are now 2, and i do not want them to remember me smoking, and although i have always smoked in the garden and never smoked around them, i know it will benefit their health too. This forum looks really good, be great to chat to some of you and se how everyone else is coping!! My last cigarette was at 7pm last night so i have officially done 24 hours now....hooray!! I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but i have not been able to concentrate all day today, i'm dropping things all the time and just don't feel quite with it!!i also am thinking about cigarettes A LOT, and have consumed about 10,000 calories today!! i am determined to eat normally tommorrow though, i really do not want to gain a load of weight! are the patches/tablets/gum etc worth a try? x

welcome Kim and well done on your quit, as for Manny well he is really a bit of a nob, so don't laugh too much.

Sounds like you have really good reasons for quitting and that will help, as Manny said do take time to do some reading, as for the patches, gum etc can't help i'm afraid i went CT (cold turkey) but there will be people along soon with advise i'm sure.

keep posting and let us know how your getting on.

If you feel you are doing alright cold turkey then thats fantastic!

Im using patches, on my 3rd day at the moment, and doing fine, craving a cig more because of habit than actually needing one, alot of people are using champix on here aswel n seem do be doing good.

But if you feel you can go CT then you keep it up, probably the best way to do it!

Good luck with your quit

Hi Kim

Congratulations on deciding to quit and getting through your 1st day. :)

Everyone's different regarding the use of patches/gum/tablets etc. I chose to use patches and on about the 4th day, I forgot to put on my patch. I had NRT gum as a back-up and used a couple of pieces of this instead. On hindsight, for me, it was the situational habits of having a fag which were the most difficult to overcome. That said, I felt like a non-smoker after 5 weeks having used a total of 2 1/2 packets of gum to help me along the way.

Other salient advice is READ LOADS about stopping smoking and keep in mind your reasons for quitting. You can do it.

Congratulations on Day 1, although today will be day 2. We are all mad, just giving up makes it come out of us a bit more.

Keep strong and when you get a craving do something else or come on here and shout and scream, we all listen and will try and help.
