Did you put it on the same place as yesterday?

Try moving it to somewhere else.

Don't think it should be burning but know you have to put it on a different part of you everyday. Sorry can't be more help.

Hope it sorts itself out :)

Amiz, you may be allergic to them, also are you using the 24hr patches or the 16hr ones, The 24hr ones should be taken off at night and as said before never put one on in the same place the next day.

Good wishes

Worst i've had was just incredibly itchy where the patch is for about an hour or so after putting it on.

i did a quick google for what you described tho:

Side effects of nicotine patches may include:

* Itching, burning or tingling when the patch is applied. This usually goes away within an hour, and is a result of nicotine coming in contact with the skin.

* Redness or swelling at the patch site for up to 24 hours.

* Dizziness

* Headache

* Upset stomach

* Vomiting

* Diarrhea

yeah i had that quite a few times - it gets less noticiable after a while

I think it should be the 16hr one taken off at night. Back to the irritation, I went through the full NHS programme nearly, 21mg, 14mg and then 7mg, I didn't get any problems untill the 7mg then the irritation was unbearable, luckily I was able to stop the patches. My adviser told us to try them on other parts of the body (the arms are too sensitive). If you have an adviser, ask, that's what they're for. David

I spoke with the sister at my GP's and she said the issue with the nicorette patches is that they dont stick that well and when they do they cause skin irritation.

I am on the 16 hour ones, but only have them on for about 12 hours at the moment.

I took it off as it was getting ridiculously hot and have put it back on the right arm.

Having some side effects which are not that bad yet but im sure it wont last that long for the last month i have had nothing but side effects from medication antibiotics are the worst for your tummy, so it's nothing new here lol. Just drinking loads of fluids and need to start eating properly again.

I think i would rather the effects of nrt than the effects of a fag.

I'm using the NiquitinCQ clear patches, and they stick really well thankfully.

Only ever had one come off and that was due to wearing it in bed.. and ended up with it stuck to my butt in the morning after much searching for where it had gone :)

Put them on your back. I remember they burned me a bit at first too, but it passed.:D

If you find you want to smoke in the morning try the 24 hr patch- its good for that.

I am using the patch again and every time after I take it off, it leaves a red spot for a good 4-5 days and itches like crazy. I don't really have a problem while it is on but now I have the 14mg on and they are clear and I can see that my skin is red, but this is my first day again and I don't want to stop using them and start smoking again, I would rather have red whelps and itch then smoke! So basically I take it my skin doesn't like them regardless of wear I put them, also band aides do the same thing to me....:mad:

Now i've gotta be honest.. at first when i saw the thread title of 'should the patch be burning', it did make me think that perhaps aimz had made a rollie up with one and was trying to take a drag from it to no effect :)

In answer to michelle: If its early days, i think its fairly normal as your skin gets used to receiving the intake via the skin-layer. I seem to remember my earliest patches irritated me to heck, it seemed to settle down as the days/weeks went by tho

Sometimes it helps if you shake it about a bit before you stick it on. xx

Lol

Actually nicotine is a very burny sort of substance . the lozenges burn a bit and the foul tasting gum.

it gets alright after some time.

Mine went the other way John. I went through the full course of 21 and 14 with just a bit of irritation, started the 7s and it got bloody horrible, adviser said take it off for bed, did do and never used them again. David
