In my opinion it's simply that for most of us a drink and fag go together like strawberries and cream so to our minds you can't enjoy one with out the other does that make sense to you
What I did was I left off the booze [like you only the odd glass or two]for a full month and then had a drink at home for the first couple of times and it was fine for me
OK the first time I had a drink it felt as though something was missing but it worked and now if I'm out and want a drink it doesn't bother me at all
So you don't need to never have a drink again you just have to learn not to smoke with a drink that's all
I'm glad you're stopping again today you will get there Promise
Oh me too, i have now tried and failed 3 times in a fairly short space of time and everytime i have failed it was due to white wine.
So i started back at day one and last night...........i went to bed without any white wine or any cigs, so my plan is to cut down on the white wine maybe either give it up for a while or swap it for a different drink (some have said that helps)
Where are you when you drink, at home? pub? with friends? If at home could you make sure you don't have any fags in the house? If friends are involved can you ask them to make sure you don't?
Well i am here and if you want to buddy up and help each other through the wine situation just let me know.
Have deliberately put myself in positions in the past where I could smoke. Gone to a friends for dinner in one particular quit because I knew I'd get offered a puff.
For me I think in those quits in the past I wasn't really wanting to stop. This time, went for drinks with the above friend (thankfully in a pub) less than 7 days after quitting, as he waved from the picture window outside having a smoke (git), didn't give in. Went home less than 2 weeks after I quit and surrounded with heavy smokers, didn't start again, had a convo about starting again and their fear that being with them would lead me to do it, had to be honest with myself and tell them if I started again it would be my choice.
Good luck in quitting smoking, you have to want it. There is no real reason other than lack of willpower, you have to want to stop.
I think the reason is that i always think i can just have the one, or i can just smoke with alcohol, but it never really works, as testament to this three days later i'm still smoking 10 a day WITH the patch! Also i've given up so many times i find it easy now, but i just dont seem to be able to stay "given up"
How are you getting on bev? did you resist the lure of the white wine...?
I can drink without smoking, but only at home and only one glass-somewhere between the second glass i rush out to the all night garage on a mission.
thanks Mah, i do really want to give up, I really don't even enjoy it anymore, its the alcohol thing. It's almost as if i physically can't do one without the other as marg said....
im the same as you. every quit has gone out the window to drinking. but i see ex smokers drinking all the time so there must be a way. maybe the break thing is needed.
im gonna give what marg says a bash and not drink for a month. see how that goes.
