Hi,

i have been really busy recently, went to Knowsley Safari Park with my middle daughters class this week, and it was my youngests birthday yesterday and her party today. so all go go go.

i have been feeling rather down about all this non smoking lark, i thought by now i would be feeling better and i'm not. i still think about having a cig all the time, and i feel even worse when i have had a drink.

But i have decided today is a new day, and when people at the party (about 45 of them in my house!) ask me how it is going instead of saying "not great but i'm coping just" i am going to say "really good, i am a happy non smoker and it feels great" i have this idea that by telling people i am happy it will have a positive effect on my mind, because lets face it that's where the problem is.

So wish me luck with my new positive attitude and i will let you know how it goes.

:D

Good for you Bev.

I think your right, sometimes it is the way we think about things that causes the problems. Have been having the same thoughts this morning about something else in my life.

Have a great day today & wow everyone with your positve attitude :D I am goona try & do the same :p

Hi Bev :D

You have certainly been busy but sorry you still feel a bit down but I promise it does get better

I think that will really work for you as you say it's all in the mind, get the mind right and the rest will follow and it will be a lot easier for you the more you say it even if only to your self the more true it will become

hi Bev

yes I hear you! I am VERY glad I don't smoke anymore, but I have to hold my hands up and honestly say I miss it. I cried last night, hubby and I were sitting outside on the patio, cold beer in hand, good music pumping out, just the situation when I loved to smoke. I had to watch him have a couple of smokes. It was hard. But I didn't cave.

What helps me is acknowledging I want to smoke, not fighting this fact, but refusing to actually smoke. I say to myself "yes, I really want a cigarette. But I'm not going to have one. Today I will not smoke". I say it out loud if I have to.

When people ask me how it's going I tell them it's not as difficult as I thought it would be, but then I was pretty much expecting to be on the front pages of the national newspapers after going on a mass murder spree by now. ;)

Hi Bev,

I can only agree with everyone else. A positive attitude is definitely the way to go. Look at all the things you are gaining, it will help you stay strong.

Oh don't worry about weight gain .... I think a lot of us ex-smokers do tend to eat food/snacks/treats in place of smoking, I know for sure I would smoke when bored/stressed/angry etc. Now I eat instead. I just treat emotional eating the same as emotional smoking ... you have to have a think about what the real need is and address that instead, could be a 5 minute walk, maybe read a book, maybe take a nap.

I know I've had some weight gain, but it'll level off in time, all my energies are in quitting smoking right now. I'm not that fussed if I get a little bigger. If I get a LOT bigger then that wouldn't be good, but I'm happy to go up a size or 2 if it means I can stay quit.

Hiya Bev,

Am going through the same thing at the mo and I think it's due to that third day, third week, third month thing that I hear so much about. I swear I'm about <-> <== that close to killing my boyfriend and have a general blah attitude about the quit even though a week ago I was hyped up about it and happy. I think the trick now is to keep positive just like you said and keep on truckin :)

Not what you're looking for?
