Now well into Day 6 - wish I'd found the forum earlier - day 3 was intensely bad for me.
IT WAS SO BAD THAT I NEVER WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN EVER !!!!!
Excuse the shouting - its there deliberately to make sure I remember, lest my mind ever undergoes the idiotic things that make you want to revert to nicotine.
Today I have unnerving anxiety and excess salivation (which tastes bad) but definitely not as bad as it had been.
Finished my last pack of Club King Size in the wee small hours (02:20) of Sat 20 June 2009. A snap judgement - I decided there and then to pack in the nonsense once and for all. Got up Saturday morning, got rid of all ashtrays, empty packs, lighters etc, and all day resisted strong urges to visit the Corner shop.
Sunday was much easier than expected - fathers day - lots of visitors and even a few drinks.
Monday - the day from Hell - went to work - spoke to no-one - climbed into private shell and waited for the day (or life) to end (whichever came first).Ultimately the day ended - helped by a couple of glasses of wine before bedtime.
Its been Cold Turkey all the way - something I intend to continue - previous attempts using NRT gum/patches ultimately failed.
I am not depriving myself of other pleasures while I am on this journey - but I am avoiding getting Blind Drunk - that really clouds judgement badly.
I wish all you fellow travellers success on this journey.

Well done on getting to day 6. Having gone CT the nicotine will be all gone from your system by now, and some of the toughest days are already behind you. That isn't to say there won't be tough days ahead too, but you are already building the strength to help with them when they arrive. Stay strong, stay quit, and you will never have to go through this first week again.
Thanks All -for the warm welcome and kind comments.
Day 7 now, still in full recovery mode and untainted by nicotine - things looking better although crazy cravings still occuring. Need to remain mentally conscious and dismiss them meantime. Yesterday went faster than the day before - so things looking a bit brighter than before.
Excess Saliva - from cheeks/gums I think - and now recognise the cause - Hunger !! (previously always quelled by nicotine) somehow I had forgotten how to recognise this - havent been fulfilling daytime hunger since who knows when. Coffee and ciggies for breakfast - same for mid morning etc. I look back in time just trying to understand my own stupidity/blindness.
Club King Size - Kensitas - A brand peculiar to Scotland and Northern England I think - could never get hold of them in London/South.
