day three - (well its after midnight!) of not smoking and not had a beer since sunday - thought that id test the waters tonight in the comfort and controlled zone of my own home with no peer pressure or ciggarettes to "borrow" of a mate.
and yep - god drinking without smoking is going to take some getting used to but i have never felt more positive about being able to do it. 2 bottles of grolsh down and to be honest i just want to quit more than i want that ciggie.
i can almost taste the cigarette that has accompanied almost every beer for the last 15 years but those days are gone. i will be strong goddam it.
man this beer tastes amazing!

Hi Bman
Well done on day 3 that's great, so you decided to have a beer or two in your own home just to see [exactly what i did with wine] and yes it does a little bit of getting used to and it's good that you want to quit more than you want a ciggie,as Bella says you're halfway there
But please may I just give you a word of advice here, be careful when you go drinking with your mates it's very easy to slip when drinking, so limit the beer to one or two and then switch to soft drinks of some sort
monring all - thanks for the support - well ended up having 3 pints last night and am really glad that I did it at home with no temptation around as it wouldnt have taken much to push me over the edge.
I think your right marg - im gonna have to cut it right down for a while till its a bit more firmly in the mind. Im hoping that the no smoking ban is going to help loads. I'll just have to stay put when friends go for a ciggie for a bit till im strong enough to stand with them.
The other wierd thing is the physchological rubbish that im gonna have to work on. There was loads of lies coming from the little nicotine demon trying to convince me that I'd be less fun, enjoy drinking less, be more boring etc without cigarettes. Its crazy but its such a mental battle to not listen to any of that rubbish.
Good Going bman. Im in a similar situation, ive not had a beer since last Saturday but ill be leaving it alot longer before I taste the beloved beer again.
In the past when I have tried to quit smoking it has proved to be my weakness and downfall. I think you done it right though, 2 or 3 beers at home is alot differant than a full on night in town with mates.
