Hi foks

Can anyone tell me why after 5 weeks I still have the odd miserable day? It's not everyday but even on a good day I have that twisting feeling in my stomach. I managed all week and now today I only got till tea time before I had to hunt the tissues!

I've been reading and I know ive done pretty well

so far. Anyone else the same? Don't want to be miserable on my own!

    WOW 5+ weeks well done you Lots of us still have the odd miserable day quite some way into our quits but don't know why but if you think about I imagine that you like me and other people had days like that before we quit as well'but then we'd light up and think we felt better

    Might be hard to believe but I'm not a miserable person. Bit grumpy at home cos of the mess the kids leave, weekends full of ironing and housework but generally people woudnt say I was miserable.

    I just hate it. I always like to fix things but haven't managed to fix myself yet and it's killing me.

    Not sure what I wouldve done if I hadn't found this forum! Think a nice cup of tea is in order x

    You say you can't fix yourself but you are everyday you fix a little more of you it just takes time and patience but you will get there

    Right then Carole, I am coming out in sympathy, my wife gets a dogs life for the rest of the night, I have a good reason, don't I, I have stopped smoking lol. Seriously though Carole, after 5 weeks aren't you just remembering the bad days better. We'll all love you better eh? Love David.

    hi well done Youve done so well Iv done 4 weeks today and strill have the odd moment I will be honest i think the odd moment will come in and out of our lifes for a while yet Its cause we had an addiction Iv spoke to many x smokers and they ve said the same But hey be proud be strong and keep going . WELL DONE YOUR A STAR.....:p::):

  • I havent had miserable days because I am just so darn proud of myself for giving up. I am a naturally positive person. I also have 10 good reasons which I refer to when I might be getting a bit narky and after only reason 2-3 reasons I soon get over it!!!

    I may have it all to come though because I have an inahalator and I am not even thinking of giving it up until wk12 because I dont want to tempt faith - saying that I am only using 2 capsules a day.

    Hope you are feeling happier this evening Carole and can find lots of positives to get you through the downers.

    well, Im almost happy to hear that others are going as crazy as me sometimes. I guess it shows me that I'm not insane or generally just a bastard without smoking (!) It's truly been giving me a hard time and Ive had to apologize 3 times in the last month for my behaviour with co-workers. Damn I wish this would end - Im thinking it may end up costing me my job if I cant act civilized!!

    Not that I'm happy you're suffering but sometimes I start to think -is this normal? Am I really such a miserable cow? If others are nervy and anxious then it kind of consoles me that it really will pass!

    I'm good at hiding it though! Haven't upset anyone yet cept hubby who's getting a little worried!


  • i think everyone has to go through that point...

    i was going through that last week... i felt miserble and thats just not me im normally the joker and people come to me to cheer them up.. but last week i couldnt control it i would have outbursts of anger and want to throw things around frankly it scared me.

    my other half also quit but he wasnt experiencing the same things

    i couldnt understand why i was feeling like i wanted to hit my OH and shout at my mum!!!!!

    but i took it day by day and promised to not give in... now on day 20 and me and my OH had a great weekend ( i havent felt angry once) im glad i stuck through it.... i kept thinking was i would rather smoke then feel like that a second longer but that was just my brains way of tricking me ... i found this sight and i realised i wasnt alone.....

    today is a good day for me i cant tell you how i will feel tomorrow but i can tell you your not alone... :) x x

    Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

    You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

    Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

    I promise you that this feeling will pass Have you tried explaining why you're not always on top form I'm sure most people will understand and support you

  • I've been very miserable, and critical of everything. 46 days and it's still not easy. It' s hard to stay calm and relax, I'm sure I'm driving everyone crazy.

    Oh I know how you feel. When you're really down it feels like it will never end. You can't really remember a time before you felt so bad and then it's over and you worry how long it will last. I really don't like not being in control of my emotions!

    However, even when it's hard to believe you know that what everyone on here says is true. It won't last forever. Once you realize you haven't given anything up but instead have gained freedom from addiction I think you might not be so angry anymore. Just as I wont be so miserable anymore ---hopefully :-)

    Be strong and read whyquit again. You'll be the life and soul again before you know it

    ps have you tried kalms? Or at johns wort. Get them at chemist or health food shop x

  • No I'll try your recommendation.

    I just tried Camomille tea with Sweadish bitters...someone recommended.

    I've tried Yoga classes...which I think I'll do again but just can't get motivated. I know smoking is terrible, wrong, awful, and millions of reasons as to why we should quit. This is the longest ever and I never ever want to go through this quitting part again!! So I will never touch a cigarette again.

  • Oh you guys.... I hate for you to feel this bad..... I would for sure feel the same way but I have this hypnosis cd and I swear whenever I have a bad day (and I have them if I don't listen to it) everything just calms down and I am fine again.... maybe you guys can consider hypnotherapy? I seem to be one of a few only on here promoting hypnotherapy..... I just know it helps me..... and maybe it can help you to stay in that positive quit frame of mind.... hope you guys (Bluedog and Free3 and everyone else of course) have a good day tomorrow and a good day after that.     What a sad lot we are! I suddenly realized I had a copy of Paul mckennas stop smoking book I bought last year. Have dug it out and it has a hypnosis cd with it. Going to give it a go later- might sit in car at lunch time.

    Will let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed!

  • Maybe I'll look into the hypnotherapy. I think of smoking everyday and think of how I always had a cigarette to relax, take a break. I do feel so stressed and more stressed than I show. Whatever I do to relax does not work. Reading here and the support helps.
