Into New Territory Now ...

I am now in new territory! I have been 'free' for 6 weeks and 1 day. In the last ten years the longest I have quit for is 6 weeks. I seem to get to between 3 and 6 weeks and then I tell myself I'm 'bored with being a non-smoker' and I go back to it, OR I decide I can be just a 'social-smoker' and I'll just smoke the occasional one of my hubby's - of course that works doesn't it - NOT!!

So here I am at 43 days - and I feel SO different this time - I have a completely different mindset - Because I UNDERSTAND my addiction, and I know I am still addicted and always will be.

I do still have the odd tough day, yesterday was really tough but then I always knew Sundays would be hard. I loved having a smoke round the table after Sunday lunch, drinking port and picking at the cheese board. It seemed that it all went together and cigarettes were a part of this ritual on Sundays. But every Monday morning since quitting I have got up feeling SO good - not feeling a bit sick and having that tight feeling in my chest - it is so much better being smoke -free!

And it is thanks to you guys for your support and, well, just being there when I've needed you. Cheers everyone xx

Hi Jerry Lee,I quit the same day as you and find the Sundays quite tricky as well.I also had a bit of a day yesterday but feel much better tonight,as long as I have access to this forum I can keep going and ride the bad times.

Stay strong and well done on beating your 6 weeks.

It's the lovely smelly Jerry-lee !!

How are you girl?

Hi BB - I'm feeling bl**dy good at the moment thanks for asking!

Maybe it's because today when I came back from doing the stables my OH just put his hands over his nose and said something like 'Good God girl - go and have a shower - you look like you've been playing in the brook!'

Last time someone said that to me - I was about 10.

Hey and BB - don't you dare get bored by being a non-smoker! Believe me - if your bored, you will be whether you smoke or not!

Quite honestly Dee, I always think you are the supportive one! And yes I do feel confident about quitting at this moment in time. Yesterday I was almost at breaking point and I seriously thought about asking my hubby if I could just have one.

BUT those moments are few and far between and they become less and less so I am getting more and more confident. It does seem as though I take 3 steps forward then one back, but I know I will get to that magical penthouse (if only to have a good nosey round!)

Keep strong Dee - you've got it sussed too.

Thanks to you all, esp Margaret - you are a real inspiration. You are always there to offer support - thank you xx

Poked him in the eye yet ?

Nearly when he told me I looked like I'd been playing in the brook!

And I would have definitely poked him in the eye if I'd asked him for a ciggy yesterday (I very nearly did) and if he'd let me have one.

Actually he has been very thoughtful of late and taken to smoking outside!

Oh apart from one he had in the car on the way home from IKEA today. I think I made him spend too much money!

Jerry lee

well done on reaching this milestone. Hopefully the fact that you understand your addiction will be enough to make sure that you NEVER go back to even just one.

BB

It's the lovely smelly Jerry-lee !!

How are you girl? - certainly sounding chipper

Think I'm getting to that point in my quit - "this was too easy" and I haven't had a 'Hallelujah' or 'Eureka' moment, and I'm just .. bored. And quite fancy a roll-up ..

Dangerous time I guess.

Dont hold your breath for the Hallelulah or Eureka moment. The bad news is, it doesn't happen. The good news is, you dont need a moment like that. Your life just goes on as normal, but as a non smoker.

BUT imagine a "negative" Eureka moment, e.g if you dont stop and some years down the line your doctor saying to you, "well i am sorry MR "Bible Black", its as we feared, you have *(Insert horrible illness caused by smoking)*. At that moment you would have your negative Eureka moment of "SH1T if only i had stopped smoking".

Stay strong mate you have done very well so far.

... so maybe it was a top compliment. I can't think of a better one anyway ..

Thanks BB - you know how to make a girl feel good!

I shall take it as a compliment now you have said that. Not sure I could have been descibed as 'perfection' though, unless you like very windswept hair with bits of hay in, dirty jeans and very muddy wellies!
