Too late for that...

Hi,

My name is Fergus and I have decided to stop smoking today. I am doing it for myself because I play a lot of sports and feel unhappy about it. Every time I light a cigarette, there is guilt in me that I can not suppress, I have been smoking for 13 years and have managed to stop smoking for a week last year only to take it up again straight after.

I would like to have some help and, more importantly, some pointers as to what to expect in the next few weeks or months. This is probably the most important decision I have ever taken and, judging by my past attempts, I will need all the help I can get.

Any comments or email support is appreciated,

Thanks

Fergus

Hello Fergus,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your decision to quit, the best advice I can give you is to educate yourself about niccotine addiction I am sure others will be able to point you at some good sources of information. Post as often as you need even if all you want to do is rant,

woofmang.com/tales/index.shtml

This is one site that is recomended by a few people here. Stick with it mate it is worth it.

Thank you very much, it is a tough decision but one I needed to make, I know by experience that the most important aspect here is to have someone to talk to to convey your anguishes and stress. I also know that people who have never smoked are usually not the best people to talk to since they have never experienced it.

Thanks again,

Cheers

Fergus

Fergus

Education seems to be the key to stopping.

Learning all you can about what to expect, how to quit, what to do at various times during your quit, for now and the forseable future.

The site which helps most of all is whyquit.com.

It is fantastic in its wisdom and has a huge amount of information to help quitters. There are even videos for each day of the first two weeks of your quit.

Have a look around whyquit and learn as much as you can.

Oh!!! but keep on coming back here for help and support as this site is also brilliant for that.

Cheers

hi fergus

good luck with the quit, if you can go a week without smoking thats the hard part over, it starts to get easyer, u wont notice it until ur 3 weeks in and u come to realise you go through large parts of the day completely forgetting about smoking. its a buzz :D believe me. im up to week 4 and for some mad reasone i feel cleaner and happier, so remember that for the miscomfort you go through what you get at the end is so worth it

cheers

HI Everyone

I am a sports person myself, im on my 6th day and enjoying every moment in the gym.

I quit few months ago for 3 MONTH, and it as th best time of my adult life.

You body keeps on asking you for exercises, you can work out a lot more easier and you need a lot to be short of breath. was feeling the as you whenever i light up a cigarette, every day/week/month I feel guilty.

Lots of heavy smokers succeded before us and im sure they smoked a lot more and longer than me, I smoked for 12 years and hopefully its our turn to succeed....

keep it up
