Congratulations on making the decision and sticking to it. 2 days is really great, it may not seem like much - but the early days are by far the most difficult. In many ways it is the most challenging time of a quit - so feel proud of yourself!!!

Advice? Firstly, take one day at a time and gradually you will find it gets a little easier. Try not to compare yourself to others, but do take on board their experiences... everyone progresses at a different rate, but most people experiences are broadly similar.

The best advice I can give you is to read. Read this forum, follow links to other websites and read those. The more you learn about the addiction, your own "habit" and what to expect as you quit, the greater your chances.

Heres some to get you started...

woofmang.com

whyquit.com

ffsonline.org

quitsmokingonline.co.uk

Practical stuff... I found distraction hugely helpful. I went walking, or came to the forum to moan about things :D

I also tried to remember 2 golden rules...

1) A cigarette cannot change a situation - the situation will still be the same but you wasted 10 minutes smoking.

2) A crave will go away, no matter what, of it's own accord. You do not need to do anything - it will go away whether or not you smoke.

Drink lots of water to help the body heal and flush out the cr*p. Eat healthy and spread your normal level of food out into smaller portions and eat more often.

Best wishes to you :D

Can't really put it much better than Stuart did (as usual :p ). Good luck, Angela!

Hi Jan and Angela

Welcome *waves*

You have done the hardest bit - that's getting through the first couple of days. Now you just need to take little steps - one day at a time! And READ - read lots about your addiction - take time to get to know your enemy!

You will soon start to re-programme your brain and learn that life without ciggies IS possible and in fact a lot more enjoyable. You'll be free!

Keep posting on here and let us know how you're getting on.

Well done on the decision to quit both of you, Angela, don't worry about knowing how to use the forum, if you want to say something just say it wherever or whenever you want, I don't think I've seen a single post on here that hasn't got a reply, there's always someone to give advice, egg you on, sympathise, just chat or give you a kick up the ar5e as required :D

Welcome

I too am a day twoer! Something Reddlyon wrote yesterday has really hit a nerve. If we were alcoholics or similar we would all sit in support groups talking about our addictions and helping each other. I think this forum is the key to stopping smoking. I have never felt so positive about a quit before! I went home last night and didn't even worry that my husband (loser!) was fagging it! Its terrific! Keep going.
