It could have been any of us - the site has inspired me through many tough times. My partiular favourite is "freedom is the journey". But every single one of them is worth a read!

My stats are a bit complex, as basically I quit at the end of September 2008, but had a few 'dark' patches since that time, but have now been totally smoke free for 7 days 20 hours, 14 minutes and 48 seconds, and have not smoked 156 cancer sticks, and have saved best part of £40.
Realistically, since the end of september I probably smoked something like 60 fags (3 days worth in old money!), so the stats stack up something like: Not smoked 1,796, saved £450, not smoked for 12 weeks, 5 days, 20 hours, 12 minutes, 36 seconds. But in that time I did smoke (fags and £'s deducted), so it doesn't really count!

I am starting week 6 today. I have found the last few days a little hard but have not smoked so thats good. But i was thinking about it all this morning I Started quitting for the first time in my life march 2007 no smoking day. A few of us in work was giving it a try. Well I lasted 6 months and Then failed that was in the sept for the rest of that year was stopping for a few days and smoking for a few till Jan the first this year. I have had two slips this year And now done this 6 weeks. I still dont know if this is the one I hope it is and at this time have no real thought of caving so dont worry. But in all my time of quitting have never forgot about smoking for more than 30 mins at a time and never thought I will never smoke again. Do anyone think it maybe something Im doing wrong and making things hard for my self. hope you can understand what Im trying to say not very good at explaining my self on paper. Also sorry for the long post. xxxxxxxx

Firstly, it's not that long a post. I don't really think that everyone has that perfect moment of clarity when they know this is the one. I was lucky, I did... but from what I see, most people seem to ease their way into freedom through practice.
If something "clicks" with you, you will know.... but I honestly think that doesn't happen for most people and that it's very gradual for them.
hi linda..keep on keeping on one day at a time...when you feel like given up,,remember why you held on for so long in the first place....keep the faith ,,all the best tony

It's always a bit difficult to measure one persons experiences in their quit against another persons. There came a point at just prior to 4 months the constant nagging in my head got less and less. And not just that...it wasn't so stressful having to deal with the craves I did get. I had finally accepted that I had become a non smoker. Seems a bit crazy to state that now...but at the start of my quit I wanted to become a non smoker. That want changed into acceptance.
There isn't anything you are doing wrong...far from it, you are doing right just by continuing....at some point along the way you'll get your Eureka moment

Nope, not a single puff buddy - don't worry.
It's just I have switched my home network over entirely to Linux and the only thing I am not entirely happy with is the quitmeter for it... it measures fags not smoked just a little too precisely! lol
I would edit it out, but to be honest I can't be bothered!

Keep The Quit
Thirty-six THOUSAND cigarettes. I had to say that a few times and it's not me that's not smoked 'em!
36 (nearly 37) thousand cigarettes not smoked. That's a sobering thought. If you laid them end to end, how far do you think they'd reach?
Well done - I'm still boggling at what that many fags might look like. Urgh!

The one I use is here: xarka.com/freeware/ . I like it because it gives you 'milestones' - e.g. £200 saved or 1000 cigs not smoked, that kind of thing.
If you want to look for others, just google 'quit meter'. There are loads of free ones available.
quit for 1 Month 4 weeks 12 hours and 35 minutes or 58 days if you prefer. I have NOT smoked 877 cigarettes, which has saved me £241.40 (er where has that gone then?!!!)

I had one on my last quit (which lasted 7 months), it's on my old laptop which I needed yesterday, as I turned it on it flashed up that I'd been quit 1 year and 7 months etc etc! I felt such a fraud (and a bit depressed) as I'm on day 11!! Hope your quit's going well

Anyway - I'm pleased to be back after deciding to take a break from the forum a few months ago.
As I approach 2 years quit, how has life changed?
Well - I've put on some weight, but I was always too skinny anyway - so that's not so bad.... due to increased exercise and fitness it's not all flab
I feel better, certainly less stressed and happier.
Do I miss the smokes? No - not at all, and can't remember the last urge (and that's the gods honest truth). Happily, my hatred of smokers and smoke has passed also and my freinds who still smoke are no longer annoyed because I won't go downwind of them
I've bought a set of alloys and a roof for mine and I'm calling it a van.

I know it had been 2 years and 1 mth to the day that I quit this time. In a much better place for it. I am actually giving up for the only right reason that works.
Because I just don't want to smoke anymore.
Not for my kids (although a fringe benefit) not for money (you can always find the money to smoke) and not because everyone and his dog is telling me I should. I really just don't want to do it anymore. And the fact i've gone cold turkey, something I would have never believed possible 2 years ago, just proves to me that I can do this. Yay, go me pmsl.

Not posted in here for quite some time. Should perhaps have posted this in "My Reasons" but anyway here is a bloody good reason to quit smoking. I am currently recovering from renal cell carcinoma and subsequently have lost a kidney. You've guessed it - one cause of kidney cancer is smoking. Thankfully I am now cancer free but obviously have to undergo the 5 year checks but I am feeling fine.
On a lighter note, good luck to all on your road to freedom from the weed and a Merry Christmas to everyone.

Enjoy the rest of christmas and the forthcoming new year.
I hope you all had a great Christmas and that you’re New Year will be the best ever,
I have been quit ONE YEAR and 3 Days, who cares what I have saved, I have no idea but whatever it is/was I am like Bell its gone LOL
So for me there is no point in trying to work it out, I envy all those that managed to save whatever they would have spent on cigs, I smoked rollies and most of the baccy came from abroad so I know over a year it would not have been that much, definitely not enough to be of any consequence but just quitting is my reward,
Well done all of you for managing to quit no matter how long it’s been and for all those thinking about it climb on the wagon, see it’s not so bad is it, you are now on this fab site and with some fantastic people to get support from xx

Apart from the stinking cold I have this week (thanks Karri ), I feel good and I'm soooo pleased to be able to report that I've stuck to my quit.
Am spending a couple of days in Lyme Regis with Mr Chocolatepusscat (should he be Chocolatetom?) but I promise I won't forget that it's one day at a time
Keep it up everyone cos I don't want to do it without you
I am trying my hardest to get as far away from that Nicodemon as i can and each month down makes me feel amazing, heres to the next and the next, but im not being too complacent and i know that i have you lot to thank for all the support and encouragement that you have given me since i joined in Oct last year.
I hope the seats in the penthouse are comfy cos i am making my way there for my glass of bubbly in Oct.
I have had a really rotten day today (13 days without the buggers) but your post just says it all and puts it in perspective - thanks - support on here is great

Nope, last time I took a walk in a park I had to walk through too many clouds of 2nd hand smoke
But no its not hard now, yes there is the occasional passing fancy but nothing beyond a nostalgic feeling. I could draw a parallel in that a couple of weeks ago when I bought a Wagon Wheel (BTW I'm sure they are smaller than they used to be) just to see if they tasted the same as they did when I was a child the difference being that I know that smoking is an addiction so I won't act on that nostalgic feeling as it would probably re-ignite the addiction.
The very basic rule is that the more time since you last smoked the less the desire to smoke again. Admittedly in the 1st year that isn't 100% true as you'll have good and bad days but it is true that the further along you get the more good days you get.
Would have put my congrats in pretty colours cos 1000 days is really, REALLY special, but couldn't figure out how to do it. The thought tho is there for you Stuart.
What a fun little program. I love the milestones and when they'll be reached. I'll have saved £20,000 by 2032, so that's something to look forward to, lol. Hmm, that doesn't account for inflation and tax tho
Well done Nic. You were one of the first people to welcome me to the site when I joined back in 2008 and gave me some great advice. Didn't stick then as I wasn't ready (know now that I would not have made it back then regardless as I didn't want it enough)
Your advice, aswell as Stuarts and others has stuck though and here I am 8 mths quit.
I am so pleased to see you this far quit. Its quite inspiring.
Today i have completed a full 8 months and now im into month 9. My stats for today are...........
I have been quit for 8 Months, 1 hour, 49 minutes and 18 seconds (243 days). I have saved £1,177.11 by not smoking 4,132 cigarettes. I have given 4 Weeks, 16 hours and 40 minutes back to my life.
MAH- Free and Healing for Two Years, One Month, Twenty Days, 21 Hours and 56 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 54 Days and 5 Hours, by avoiding the use of 15618 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £3,508.36.

Glad I wasn't in it for the savings on the ££'s. I know I've spent more on a cycle and cycle accessories, cycling holidays, music and Pilate's classes which, unlike the smokes, have been worth every penny.
Worse off financially but healthier and fitter than I've been in years
Pol - 22 months, 21 Hours and 20 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 41 Days and 20 Hours, by avoiding the use of 12058 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £1,115.65.
3 years - 36 months - 156 weeks - 1095 days - thats roughly 25375 fags at a cost of roughly £6000 at the price I was paying in 2008.
Big numbers now.
And if anyone asks - No, not a single mg of nicotine has entered my body in that time. A fact that still seems to amaze smokers, I don't know why that is... after all, I don't smoke.
Gary Baker - Free and Healing for One Month, One Day, 15 Hours and 4 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 6 Days and 14 Hours, by avoiding the use of 1898 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me R 1*705.41.

Each and everyone of you congratulations on defeating the deadly demon I hope to have something worth while to post here in a few months time but thanks you are all inspirational
been smober for One month, three weeks, six days, 8 hours, 1 minute and 10 seconds. 1750 cigarettes not smoked, saving £175.13. Life saved: 6 days, 1 hour, 50 minutes.
Free and Healing for Two Years, Six Months, Twenty Six Days, 21 Hours and 18 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 65 Days and 6 Hours, by avoiding the use of 18798 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £4,250.58.
I don't know about 4 before leaving the house but I used to have 4 before getting to work. That was 1 just after waking up (stood outside in my dressing gown) then breakfast, shower, dressed and leave the house within 30 minutes. During the 40 minute drive to work I would have another 3 which were immediately after setting off and then the other 2 were started at the same "checkpoint" each day.
I could easily have smoked 4 on the drive which is why I set myself checkpoints but sometimes I would drive a bit too quickly to get to them!
Good to see so many successful quitters about, and I agree that we are testament to the fact that its very achievable.

After just over a year and a half of quitting, previously smoking roughly 50 a day (sometimes over 60 ), I have saved about 10,000 pounds, and not smoked 27,350 cigarettes!
Yep, that's twenty-seven-thousand three-hundred and fifty!!!
One of the techniques I used to help my quit was to imagine all those cigarettes I had smoked staked up in a pile... Woah, just that one-and-a-half year's worth is scary enough!
Hi my name is David on week 2 of not smoking. I have been putting 7 quid a day into a different online account and have saved 49 quid already. Good work everyone !! I'm new to this forum but it's greate to hear everyones stories !!
I shall be spending my new found wealth on a plane ticket which is one of the reasons for quitting - my son and his wife have moved with my beloved grandson to Doha Qatar - I have had to do something to be able to afford to visit them especially as they are have another which will be my grandaughter. I miss them so much.

Any reason is a good reason in my book....hope you dont have to wait too long before you can splash out on that ticket!!

I can't think of a better reason. My grandchildren are in NZ so I know how you feel.

Well done Stuart, always a little bitter sweet for me seeing your stats as I should be there iykwim. But I will be in another 2 years
I have been quit for 1 Year, 11 Months, 8 hours and 36 minutes (701 days).
I have saved £3,575.54 by not smoking 12,624 cigarettes.
I have saved 1 Month, 1 Week, 6 Days and 20 hours of my life.
My Quit Date: 24/10/2010
OMG 1 more month and it will be 2 years, whoo hoo. I cant believe i did this and have stayed of them. I am never going back to them as i love being a non smoker
Hi , I thought this thread was awesome so thought I'd put my stats in
I've been smoke free for 61 days and 20 hours extending my life expectancy by 10 days and 5 hours by not smoking 2470 cigs that would have cost me £749.50!!!!
I'm so chuffed that I've done two calendar months now! I'm just so happy
I so wouldn't have got here without everyone on here and I'm so grateful
I've no idea how long I've extended my life as such, don't have anything with apps on it  I haven't had a fag in 156 days I think, saved about £160 and not had about 3120 fags......
Wow, I can not wait to be able to say that! That's mind bending at my point. I've been reading old posts and recognise you from there, you must feel brilliant !
Here goes pathetic stats! 70 days smoke free, not smoking 2800 cigs at a cost of £850 ish x

70 days is a good quit. Longer than I ever managed, protect it, defend it and keep going, every day is easier.
During which time I have not smoked 29608 fags and apparently saved £7,106.40, not sure where it's all gone though:confused:
Its easy now, truly easy. Stresses hit and smoking doesn't even enter my mind. I was a hardened addict with more failed quits under my belt than I care to remember.
I know everyone says it but if I can, everyone can.
Impressive and inspiring stats you have there peeps.
Here's the "small potatoes".....
According to my official active stop program:
93 days, no money saved yet .... (as I haven't sold the tobacco mountain I had in the spare room yet!) Sense of humour just about still intact, online friends made loads, and hang on...yep..it says here..... Iiiii'm officially a non-smoker! Which is good to know
Oh my word, I hadn't checked my app for ages but did so having seen this rejuvenated thread.
So here's mine - 4 months, 23 days and 14 hours since I last smoked...that's 1,436 avoided. Nearly 1500 of the evil little blighters! How many plants is that??
Got my quitnet email again today to remind me that its 4 years and 10 months since my last puff. These days its only the email that reminds me that the 17th had some significance

Most impressive, Wow, only 2 months to a real major milestone! It's really nice that you still come on here and share a joke or words of encouragement.
6 months, 17 days and 18 hours done, and the fact that I've not smoked 1,988 fags has saved me roughly the cost of my week's hols with the family in France. I'm guessing the health stats are similar to Max's - what app/site are you using for those fella??
Really can't imagine 4,270 fags laid end to end and it's quite scary thinking about all the tarry smoke I'd have inhaled from them without even thinking twice about it!!
Melissa aka magic mom has been unattached to the nic demon for 23 days 11 hours and 50 mins. Ive not smoked 705 ciggies and saved £276.64 so far. And apparently, ive saved 2 days 22 hours and 28 mins, which I think is rather fabulous!
Missed my 5½ year milestone, I thought about it earlier in the month but when the 17th came it didn't spring to mind. Anyway:-
Nic - Free and Healing for Five Years, Six Months, Three Days, 6 Hours and 38 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 104 Days and 20 Hours, by avoiding the use of 30199 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £7,881.95.
Since the cost of ciggies has gone up to I don't know what in the last 5 years I'm sure that's closer to 10 grand I've not spent (won't say saved :o)
...I put the price in as £5.20 and goodness knows what they have gone up to now...
Not often you can thank the government, but every time the budget puts the price of cigarettes up, you save even more money:D Bring on the budget, I just love it
I remember Stuart from back when we both started on this path!
This conversation reminded me, I did some sums recently....
At a rough estmate, in the seven and a half years since I had my last fag (exactly 90 months ago today!) , I have saved an absolute minimum of TWENTY THOUSAND QUID by not feeding the nasty habit.
I've also got married in the meantime which would have been out of the question at the time - my other half has a minor medical issue with his breathing and couldn't countenance being together if I still smoked!
( I do occasionally have dreams in which I am smoking and my dream self is seriously p*ssed off at myself for it - my wakeful self too! )
Tomatpots - Quite a long time now........ Just done a few sums myself and realised the stats now portray that I smoked for half of my current lifespan. Next year I move into positive figures.
