I smoked my last cigarette 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 7 hours and 6 minutes ago. I have saved £124.14 by not smoking 535 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Day, 20 hours and 35 minutes of my life.
Excellent posts so far - keep 'em coming folks and if you haven't got one yet maybe all you need is a bit of inspiration - a song that will always be with you and remind you of the liberation that is your quit.
LOL - My no smoking clinic told me to sing a song if you got a craving as you can't think and sing at the same time.
Give it a try...
AWWWW, RIGHT!!!!!! Now I'm all embarrassed
However, this morning when I got off the train, I had as usual, to run the gauntlet of smokers just outside the train station. This set me off thinking about this thread and I furiously made my brain think of a song - any song - to which I knew the words.
Well, here goes....
Give me oil in my lamp keep it burnin'
Give me oil in my lamp I pray....Hallelujah!
Give me oil in my lamp keep it burnin'
Keep it burnin' til the break of day.
Chorus:
sing Hosanna sing Hosanna sing Hosanna
to the King of Kings.
sing Hosanna sing Hosanna sing Hosanna
to the King of Kings.
Give me love in my heart, keep me serving
Give me love in my heart I pray (hallelujah!)
Give me love in my heart, keep me serving
Keep me serving 'til the break of day
Do not ask where that came from - I just remembered it from Sunday School (many moons ago) But I'll tell you what, it made me smile and kept my mind well away from cigarettes so it is now officially my quit song!!!!
Yep, excellent thread. I've had a song I've associated with quitting since the beginning. It does sound weird but on hearing it it always cheered me up during the early days.
My song is Jungle Love by The Steve Miller Band. It may be best recognised as the theme tune on one of the seasons of Everybody Loves Raymond!
I have two - both by James Blunt. Both songs remind me - of the terrible things that we do to ourselves. And they remind me - that we have a choice in everything we do, even if it's just a choice in our actions and reactions to someone else.
"Carry You Home"
Trouble is her only friend, and he's back again
Makes her body older than it really is
And she says it's high time she went away, no one's got much to say in this town
Trouble is the only way is down, down down
As strong as you were, tender you go
I'm watching you breathing, for the last time
A song for your heart, but when it is quiet
I know what it means and I'll carry you home, I'll carry you home.
If she had wings she would fly away and another day God will give her some
Trouble is the only way is down, down down.
As strong as you were, tender you go
I'm watching you breathing, for the last time
A song for your heart, but when it is quiet
I know what it means and I'll carry you home, I'll carry you home.
And they were all born pretty in New York City tonight
And someone's little girl was taken from the world tonight
Under the stars and stripes
As strong as you were, tender you go
I'm watching you breathing, for the last time
A song for your heart, but when it is quiet
I know what it means and I'll carry you home, I'll carry you home. (X2)
"Same Mistake"
So while I'm turning in my sheets
And once again, I cannot sleep
Walk out the door and up the street
Look at the stars beneath my feet
Remember rights that I did wrong
So here I go
Hello, hello
There is no place I cannot go
My mind is muddy but
My heart is heavy, does it show
I lose the track that loses me
So here I go
Oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...
And so I sent some men to fight,
And one came back at dead of night,
Said "Have you seen my enemy?"
Said "he looked just like me"
So I set out to cut myself
And here I go
Oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...
I'm not calling for a second chance,
I'm screaming at the top of my voice,
Give me reason, but don't give me choice,
Cos I'll just make the same mistake again,
Oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...
And maybe someday we will meet
And maybe talk and not just speak
Don't buy the promises 'cause
There are no promises I keep,
And my reflection troubles me
So here I go
Oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...
I'm not calling for a second chance,
I'm screaming at the top of my voice,
Give me reason, but don't give me choice,
Cos I'll just make the same mistake (REPEAT) again
Thankyou soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo very much John for the real words of this song, have been singing a few lines but I made them up so not quite the same!!!
