Interesting - Thanks for posting. I like seeing posts like this giving a new perspective on smoking cessation. I am hoping you won't get flamed over the possible negatives of the research findings!

I am now trying to work out how much of my decision was planned or not :) I definitively planned but the day itself was a "that's it" scenario.

I personally think you need a little bit of both and as you said previously, education is -in my view also- the key.

I can cope with flaming, I have pretty thick skin. As with lots of things in life you’ve got to be prepared to ask, “who’s pulling the strings, who’s writing the cheques and who’s gaining the most” Unfortunately we don’t live in a fluffy-bunny world and sometimes the need to be aware of the harsh realities. You may have noticed that my hobby horse is knowledge..! I still want to be free at 12 months, indeed 12 years too.

Don’t forget that the NHS quit stats are taken at 4 weeks which in itself raises a few questions.

So, who are the best people to advise you on how to quit..? Those who’ve never smoked, those out to benefit from your quit or perhaps those that are further up the road than you and have nothing to gain except personal satisfaction and the repayment of the debt of half a lifetime addicted to nicotine..?

This forum needs the balanced view of successful quitters from all different methods.

Look how thin the postings are from the sixth month onwards. :(

I guess the forum is experiencing forum dynamics both in terms of ongoing wars and also in terms of longer term quitters not relying on a forum as much - both may explain the decline in 6m+ posters.
