My username is appropriate with me being human and all. Besides, I have decided to forgive myself for getting caught back up in this horrid addiction - I have dealt with many difficult things over the past 2 years and have had good success in most areas.

Here is where I have failed.

Only now do I truly understand the term "It is so easy that you went back?” Yes - complacency and a touch of arrogance (the attitude that you can quit whenever you like, so why not enjoy another?).

Well, I slipped again and so think that I must humble myself and do this by the book.

I suspect that the real battle will be in the long term, but I am here to share tips and hopefully learn a few things along the way.

Day 1 it is.

Welcome and congratulations on your arrival at Day 1.

Yip, I agree, we are all "Only Human" but we are capable of great things, so why is quitting smoking such a challenge? We all know the answer to that; it's a dirty rotten drug that robs us of our own free will! :(

Well, I for one, don't intend to let that happen any more

Good luck, this a great forum, and you will find lots of advice and support here :)

I have been quit for 2 Weeks, 5 Days, 18 hours, 6 minutes and 27 seconds (19 days). I have saved £98.76 by not smoking 395 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Day, 8 hours and 55 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 17/02/2008 22:00

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I am confident in my actual ability to stop, but in the past it has always been those "casual" ones that have suckered me.

I think that I will only be ready to call myself a non-smoker after 1 years worth of abstaining completely.

My over confidence got the better of me last time when I thought of myself as a non-smoker after only 2 months (only to get caught the very next day!)

But now, with certain things taken care of, I can focus more on making this habit a thing of the past.

Cheers.

Yup, will do.

I am going cold turkey so should throw any physical withdrawal off relatively quickly.

After that, I just have to keep my eye on the ball.

Posting here should help me do that.

good for you

Hi Mariefalp

I'm coming uo to two weeks soon and all I can say with cold turkey is watch out for day 3, I started on the full strength pathches and gum but when I used them they weren't giving me enough relief and it made my cravings worse so decided to use nothing, first two days great! I had read about it taking 72 hours, boy!!! did I find out the next day wish I'd been prepared for it my worse day ever, I got through it, got in from work and took my self to bed until the next day, back to the water, that's good it helps. I had a hair cut last week, to give me a boost, bought a new hand bag, and two blouses this weekend and still have money left, treat yourself with what you would have spent on ciggies, that helps as well.

Thanks guys.

Day 1 was a success though last night I found a cigarette that I forgot to dispose of.

Well, it got torn and thrown out but for a split second I thought that I was going to slip.

Not so, but be careful not to leave any in old packets if you spontaneously purge the things.

So far day 2 is fine as well.

Cheers.

hi onlyhuman and marie

hows it going today ?

Sorry I have not been online - but day four is sweet!

I didn't want to post a new thread for this day (coming to an end) but will post more during days 4 -7 and give feedback.

First sign of a craving and I will be calling out to you guys.

As I say though, I hope that I can provide useful feedback for others too.

I am here to stay!

Hi Phil,

I'm no expert, but it you mean 'How can I post a new thread?', then, if you look towards the bottom of the page(I think) you'll find a blue 'POST NEW THREAD' button.

Click and off you go!

Best of luck with your quit.

Everyone on here is rooting for you!

Only Human here, and doing well!

I find that I get cravings after a workout, and these are the times when I decide to eat carpet.

I told a friend that I would eat my own carpet before returning to a cig, and have actually enjoyed some nasty carpet materials!

It is coming up for one week now and I am feeling pretty damn good.

Long may it continue!

you need to find some of those little carpet swatch books to snack on...

Or is "eating carpet" some dreadful euphemism and i'm going to end up awfully embarrassed...?

;)

Stay strong and beat it..!

Oh I so have a reply regarding 'eating carpet' but I'm gonna behave myself and swiftly move on...

:p:D

I actually meant it literally!

Meh - I was fine for the most part though.

I suppose that after a workout I want to enjoy a little dopamine kick as, on a psychological level, I feel that I must keep the "high" going.

But thankfully this is not so.

Had a good workout today on the bag and weights and didn't even think of nipping in to one of the many stores I past by to get a pack.

I suppose on the physical level the worst part is over.

Now to concentrate on not screwing up like I did last time.

I was actually surprised by how much the urge took me, but I think the difference was posting here.

Cheers.

Sanity! Whats that?

I am also new to this no smoking milarky - gave up on the 12th and have used my reading of all your woes and humour to get through my first three days. The first two I dare not join in with any of you as I felt inhuman but just reading what we are all jointly going through has helped me immensly. Keep at it and don't beat yourself up for any of the feelings your experiencing and especially if you have not already read the testiment from the guy who completed a year on the 12th

Still going strong guys.

I think that it I am entering the real stage (for me) - maintenance.

Not had too much time to post, but I will keep you all updated.
