Just reached the 72hr mark, which has always been a major hurdle for me. Using Zyban and as far as stopping me smoking goes, its wonderful! Unfortunatley after 9 days of using it I feel like a depressed space cadet with a bad case of insomnia! I feel so bad, I called the doctor and I'm cutting the dose back down to one tablet a day and see how that goes. I hope I dont have to come off it all together because my desire to smoke has completely disappeared.
Sorry, my heads such a mess I forgot to introduce myself, my name's martin and this is my first post. I didn't know this forum existed, but it's another weapon to keep in the arsenal against the dreaded nicotene.
Just one more thing, congratulations to everyone who's got this far.

Welcome and well done! Your symptoms sound familar both in terms of nicotine withdrawal and Zyban side effect. I remember the sleeplessness really getting to me when I was taking it but I did not reduce the dose as it was not offered to me as an option at that time as just launched in the UK. I remember the insomnia and sleep disturbance did improve after a couple of weeks however. The reduction in the dose may help.
I feel I should tell you what happened after I posted Yesterday.
As I said, I was feeling depressed, spaced out, and couldn't sleep, and was cutting the dosage of Zyban back to 1 a day. Suddenly yestarday afternoon I start shaking, then twitching in my arms and legs. Then suddenly I'm overwhelmed by spells of comlpete panic interspursed with bouts of total confusion. What was happening to me, was I going insane? I was absolutley terrified.
Fortunately for me, my girlfriend managed to calm me down and reassure me that everythting was going to be alright. The pills went in the bin and all I had to do was try and sleep it off. Suprisingly, I did manage to get some sleep and things are looking much brighter today. I can feel the black cloud lifting.
I still have no desire to smoke and I hope that bit stays with me. It's cold turkey from now on, but at least I'll keep my sanity.

Crikey Fly.. that's horrific!! How unlucky for you! I hope you have a better day today! Just wanted to say - cold turkey's ok!! I'm doing it that way - and I can honestly say that with the right mindset I reckon you'll get through it no probs! There have only been about 5 or 6 realy difficult days for me out of 25 - I hope it's the same for you!
bloody awful for you, you done the right thing. You will be fine now, you obviously have great support at home and thats fantastic. I used champix this time but was worried with all the bad press so took them for about 2 weeks then just when i needed them, havent had one for bout week or so now. Was too scared of gettin hooked!! as ive said before if im gonna be addicted i want to at least enjoy it!
Be positive, well done
I have been quit for 1 Month, 4 Weeks, 23 hours, 15 minutes and 6 seconds (59 days). I have saved £271.65 by not smoking 1,199 cigarettes. I have saved 4 Days, 3 hours and 55 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 01/01/2008 00:05
Of course Fly, Zyban is a depressant. It was first used in the treatment of people who have mental health problems. It was noted that the patients who used Zyban smoked less and further tests showed it actually supressed the nicotine receptors in the brain. Consequently in some people there can be awful side effects.:(
Going cold turkey is great. Get that mindset right and you can FLY through your quit. See smoking for what it is, a filthy, stinking addiction that will kill you. Enjoy your quit, enjoy each and every defeated crave. It's another nail in the Nicodemon. Take each day at a time and before you know where you are a week will be up.
Got a docs appointment this morning. Check back in "day 4-7" and I'll let you know how I got on and how I did over the weekend. Thanks all for your concern.
