Failed.....

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say...i smoked yesterday....:(

I ve been suffering the cravings really bad over the last few days, infact its drove me nuts.

Ive been quit 7 weeks now and im so disappointed with everything.

I still think about smoking a hell of a lot, whether it be a craving or otherwise, i still feel like theres a void like i did at the start.....

SO I SMOKED A FAG...cried the whole time and couldnt finish it so i put it out. Then all day my head was back and forth as to whether i wanted another one...SO I HAD ANOTHER ONE...didnt particularly like that one either and had just over half and stood on it.

Then i put a fresh patch on, that was at 7pm last night and i havent smoked since.I refuse to go back to square one and im just trying to see it as a blip but its sooo hard.

After 7 weeks quit i still am having real difficulty getting my head round it and have cried loads in the last few days.I feel like im no further forward and its really disappointing.Even now most days are a struggle, just dont get it:confused:

Sorry to sound so negative, see you tomora, Lisa xxxx

Aww hun, sorry you had such a horrid time quitting. You have come a long way! 7 weeks is a huge way and you are doing great. Allow the blip to be in the past and continue on your merry way. You have started fresh all on your own right away which is a good sign that you are ready to stomp the ciggie habit. Onward and upwards my lovely! Keep going you can do it this time. Don't beat yourself up - you are still trying! :)

I know that feeling only too well.

It's horrid. isn't it.

Some suggestions...

Have you really done all the things that are suggested to help you when the moment strikes? Made a list? got some carrot sticks? Any other things you can do with your hands..etc..etc

many of us on here are serial quitters. That means lots of us have had to give up many times to reach the point where we REALLY want to give up.

Prolonged intense craving after 7 weeks surely has more to do with your psychological dependance than your addiction.

Either way, it's a bummer.

Try try try to stay focused on your desire to be done with the expensive and health-destroying habit.

Anyone wh has been through this knows that it's not easy.

All the best for your quit...YOU CAN DO IT!

STICK WITH IT, IT WILL GET EASIER.

We are all with you...I know how bad it feels to go so far and 'blip'. I hope you can make it just a 'blip'.

Bill

Oh you poor thing - well at least you didnt enjoy it, which in its self is a good sign, take it as an endorsement that you will give up and you were just 'making sure' :) If that was me i would have had all of 2nd one wether i liked it or not and carried with more on so look on the positive side. Well done for not carrying on :D

Hey Lisa

So sorry to hear about this. I know how awful it feels as it has happened to me many times before. Just see it as part of learning about quitting and start again. Do not see your thought of cigarette or craves as out of the ordinary - even after 7 weeks, it takes time to get the mindset where there are easy to discard. The deprived feeling you describe is also very common - we have to unlearn the idea that the cigarette ever provided us with anything (remember your first ever cigarette?)

CatWoman posted some really good links recently on the Help to Stop thread - please have a look as so much of it made sense to me and may help you also.

Keep quitting, don't be ashamed as it is counter productive, just tell yourself you learnt and will deal with it better next time.

x

Please, please, don't beat yourself up so much about this.

Apparently it takes us a few attempts before we can actually quit for good.

Just relax, try and get your head around how you feel and then pick a new quit date and go for it again.

Once you've had time to think and reflect, you'll be better able to see what was the obstacle in your way this time.

You will be able to do this:)

Hi guys,

Thankyou so much all of you for taking the time to reply, it means such a lot.

I do agree with all your comments, especially Bill about me being psychologically dependent because as i said, i still have real difficulty getting my head around it even after nearly 2 months!!

I maybe think that by having a fag yesterday its kinda made me realise that i dont want to smoke if you know what i mean

Im gonna keep on keepin on:) Will keep you all posted, Lisa xxxx

I know that this has been discussed before but I can't agree that you "failed"

You tripped up, that is all. No more, no less!

One and a half cigs is not the end of the earth - nor is it the end of your quit.

Keep your pecker up and march onwards with the rest of us weirdos! ;)

I feel like im no further forward

Of course you have moved forward, Lisa, you know you really want to stop, and that is great! :)

Keep on with those patches, you can do this! :)

Hey guys,

Just a quick update: As you all know i was gutted yesterday after 7 weeks quit, for having my couple of fags (although not a full 2 as i couldnt finish them for guilt-so we'll call it 1 ) and then i stuck a patch straight back on,determined to carry on where i'd left off.

So thats what i did, I havent smoked at all since then and strangely enough havent wanted to.I needed to satisfy my curiosity i guess...and it didnt taste very nice....

So i suppose there is such thing as a blip after all :D,so onwards and upwards!!!

Hope everyone is ok and feeling strong, speak soon. Lisa xx

Hi Idont - No it isn't a week 7 thing. I slipped one week after I quit but also found, like Lisa, that I didn't want one after that but even after one month I am still thinking about fags. Not all the time but every now and then. I think it is old nic trying to catch me out, but he won't succeed:p I understand it does get better and we all have to be strong and kick old nic in the butt everytime he appears.

Good luck to all of you:D

Hi

I read something recently that made it easier for me to cope:

Just accept the fact that you are thinking about cigarettes. It's natural that you will be thinking about smoking especially during the first few weeks of the quit. Don't make a big deal out of the thoughts. Say to yourself, "So what" and let the thought go.

I have started saying "so what" a lot (well not aloud!) and to be honest it is working with time. I just ride the moment and it really does go away. It is hard to acknowledge there are bad times (but "so what" :)

Our brains are a funny beast - I am sure we can train them.

Not what you're looking for?
