The weather here got quite brisk here overnight. I love the crisp cold air so i decided to do some yardwork today. I noticed evertime I started doing vigorous work I would start uncontrolable coughing. I am not sick at the moment so it can't be from that. Does anyone know if this is normal in the beginning of their quit or should I be worried?? I got to coughing so hard it hurts!!! Now my chest feels really heavy.

Argghh it's horrible :(

But the good news is that it is common, There is years worth of built up crap down there. Now your body knows that no more is coming in, it can expel whats there!!

You could go to your doc if your worried, also sometimes they may prescribe something to help loosen it all up :o

Plenty of water too ;)

Thanks buffy..

i thought it was strange that the cold brought it on. i really haven't coughed that much which surprises me. I heard when you quit you will bring up a ton of junk but I hadn't so far. I have mucinex here, I bet that will help.

Hi OTE,

Thanks for your message for me on Day 1.

During my last quit I got horrible coughing in the night and sometimes in the day - like a dry cough so had to cough. I kept a bottle of water in the fridge and had a sip from that when I felt a cough on the way and it seemed to help. No doubt I will have to go through it all again...yucky but a necessity.

Hopes you are well and you are doing totally brilliantly.

Boudee

I went very red in the face as I slid down the bannister like a mad thing and sprinted for the fridge........I cannot afford to cough upstairs as the slightest thing will wake young Matthew. It got to be a military operation!! Now I have bought myself some bagged up ice and fill a glass with ice and water and then it is always really cold and take that up to bed - much better idea. And if the water fails hiding ones head under the pillow seems to be the next best option!!

The hardest thing is not to think about coughing when you have coughed cos that makes you cough even more - so it is important to have stand by think places to go to in am emergency to avoid the coughing becoming repetative - if you sees what I mean.
