Hi Steve,

Welcome, you will find a lot of support and info here. Buffy is right. The busier you are the better. Lots of water and I found gum helped me a lot. And sometimes it is minute by minute. I found cinnamon sticks helped too. That hand to mouth thing the first week, especially in the car.

Stay strong

hi

i found the first day the hardest, i know others find that their tough days are later than day 1.

whenever i fancy a fag i laugh the idea off as ridiculous - it works for me (well and the patches help!)

Hi Steve

Well done on deciding to quit.

I`m using patches (and nicotine gum if need be ).

My first few days were hard, craved like mad, but had to resist.

Keep it up

patches or not

hi, i`ve stopped smoking now for the past 24 hrs, as i really think most of us at work had this forced upon us and, well anyway, i`d thought i`ll give it a go. anyway, whats all this about patches, i`m going turkey and although i`m at the moment abit light headed and strange, i dont feel like SMOKING, as i only used to smoke roll-ups. A 50g pouch would last me 2 weeks and i`ve got most of it left still, celetaped up in my works bag.

I am a guard on the trains, and how someboby has not yet come up to me and given me aggro while doing my duties which might have made me do something to put that person in the right direction, beats me.

Still, dont think about it and by putting on the patches and all that crap, which would have cost you money, make the turkey work., as it`s a better buzz.

statistics show that you are more likely to be successful using NRT like patches, gum etc

cold turkey may work for some but it wont be a pleasant ride for most.

as for the price of patches - mine cost me £6.85 for a weeks supply as i signed up to a programme at the chemist - you should be able to do this in your town also, just phone your doctors or chemist

good luck

I don`t think nrt is crap. What works for some will not work for others.

It works for me.

Also i get mine on prescription and i get free prescriptions.:D

Good luck on your quit.

Hi.

Just registered, and this is my first post here. Gave up this morning, had my final ciggie last night, and went to bed. I am an experienced quitter, as this is probably my third or fourth go in the last 2 years.

Having to do Turkey, as I can't use NRT because it affects my epilepsy medication.

Now the reason for my post.

I read the post "make the turkey work, as it`s a better buzz." like this is some sort of competition. 'I gave up smoking by cold turkey, so that makes me better than you with your patches'

I left the playgound years ago.

So, pbrainsurgeon, in relation to the original post, which is request for help from someone who has a patch on, but still wants a cigarette, how does your post actually help Steve?

Start another thread if you want to go off topic and have your own discussion.

Steve, if you read this, Good luck mate. The hardest thing to break is the habit. Everybody does it their own way, you just have to find one that works for you.

For me, I spent a lot of money redecorating my bedroom last time I gave up, and vowed to never smoke in it. I will be spending time in there this week, because in there I don't feel the urge. It's the same with my Mum's house. Can be there 12 hours, not think about it. Get in the car to come home - Bang, I'd light up.

Keep us posted.

"I didn't smoke yesterday, I'm not going to smoke today. I'll let you know about tomorrow when it's here"

I think that here you should use 'Me' and not 'you', you may of unknowingly offended :o

Many people use NRT successfully, cold turkey is too tough. Every one is different and your method works for you x x

Keep it up Pete x x

Great to hear all this...

It's very pleasant to see a lot of people making progress even tough it's the first day...

That's the hardest part - The motivation and decision to quit..

Once you have decided, you'll be well motivated....

Get some gums and sweets... I mean candies... It does help to a certain extent.

Drink lots of fizzy drinks.... That might help to.

Avoid places which may contain smokes (example: burning area)

Not what you're looking for?
