Hey all, new to the board. It looks like a great place to get and hopefully give some support!
Today way my day one. Woke up and managed to not smoke all day.
Ive been using 4mg nicotine gum. Felt crappy most of the day but felt really good about not smoking.
Came in from work at 9pm (got up about 10am) and hadnt smoked. Then i smelt smoke and had to have a fag. I could have had a gum but i demanded cigerattes from my partner (who tried very hard to say no - im great at throwing strops!). Ive had 4-5 tonight.
Im going to start again tomorro, but i feel using gum ill feel crappy for ages. If im not doing cold turkey then i wont loose the withdrawels?
Thing is, i cant do cold turkey. Tried and failed too any times.
Thats my day lol I hope youve all have a better day 1!!

I think Boudee (heya nice to see ya x) said it all really!
What ever method you use, YOU are still going through the quit.
You have to use your will power and strength! if you look through the posts on this forum, focus on days 1-7, you will see how everyone has handled these times.
Try to make an incentive plan,
[*]Use a jar to save smoking money,
[*]decide on little treats that you can reward yourself with at given times ie day 1 a chocolate bar or something you like etc
[*]Use alternatives to smoking to occupy your time, reading, writing, relaxation, music or walking etc
Also your local GP / surgery may have a smoking cessation person to help build up a plan to suit your needs and offer extra support.
Everyone is different and you may be one of the ones that find it a bit tougher initialy.
I have an appt with a ceseation clinic at my local chemists. I cant believe they saw me so quick.
Im going to ask for the inhaliator as thats helped me before.
Thanks for the advice everyone.
I feel more determined today after someone on the news said the average time between diagnosis of lung cancer and death is 6 MONTHS! Thats made me even more eager to quit!
I've tried and failed more than a few times in the past so don't beat yourself up about it. However, this time is soooo different. I finally admitted to myself that I could'nt do this alone so I sought help from my practice nurse at my local surgery. The first thing she did was take a carbon monoxide reading. In smokers this is always quite high . After quitting though there is no more c.m.
in your body so your reading will go down (BUT YOU MUST STAY OFF THE FAGS SO THIS CAN HAPPEN!) Your cessation clinic will probably do this too. It really gives you something to aim for and keeps you focused . The second thing that is a great help to me is this forum. Being able to chat about stuff with like-minded folk is great motoivation. Good luck. You CAN and you Will be a non-smoker!
I've tried alsorts but found the patch has worked for me cos I don't wait till I really want one and then fall down! Everyone is different though and it's a case of finding what works for you - my biggest help has been this forum - funny how reading and writing about the thing you're trying desperately to forget helps you forget!
Know what you mean I got up the other day when the ads. came on tv and I've been stopped four weeks - didn't actually think about a fag at all but the habit of getting up when the commercial break comes on is obviously quite well ingrained!
It does pass and I must admit I'm quite suprised when I suddenly realise how long it is since I've thought about a cig. Keep with it and it does keep getting better just be prepared for real strong urges and be stronger than they are.
If I can do it I reckon even the power stations could do it!
Keep posting over the next few days - let us know how you're doing.
Ad breaks were murder i just ate during the breaks when i first quit
I forgot about the 'I'll do that after a fag' and ad break fags! wow see! i have come far! guess it's all been so gradual!
So rest assured it goes in time lol!
Trying to think what an effect ad break has now?! erm ............ I get annoyed with my lovely man when he automatically channel hops for the full 3mins! and i suddenly gush out all i have been dying to comment on since the last ad break !
To conquer the 'just have a fag first' I would do something else pleasurable, mainly snacking in my case chorizzo hmmmm
Find something for your pleasure to get up and actively do as you would when smoking, try and replace 'after a fag' with 'after a snack' or whatever you choose! reading a newspaper article, writing down a to do list or thoughts or anything! make a cuppa ......... soz lol you get the picture! i talk too much!
Oh and a habit is reported to take 28 days to evolve so quit day 28 you can celebrate a non smoking habit! though quitting gets a hell of a lot easier before then! promise!
Im quite proud of myself actually. Yesterday was day 1 and i failed. Today is the second day 1 and im an hour away from bed with no fags!!!
Day 2 will be easier as ive done day 1 properly this time!
This place is helping alot. You are all encouraging me so much. Thanks. I hope i will start to encourage the next run of day one'ers lol. If I of all people can do a full day one ANYONE can!
Day two today hope your feeling proud you should be. Keep going If I can do it anybody can 32 years of smoking and on 40 a day in the end now I am on the first day of week 10. Keep coming on here its a great help. Linda
I light my first cigarette at the age of 13. Since then I’ve been actively smoking for 12 years. Now, I’m a non-smoker for over a year. I discover the big secret for quitting forever. Therefore, I decide to help people who are willing to quit for good. smokerness.com is a site dedicated to all researchers who are searching for answers. Please, research the subjects carefully, read the posts couple of times if necessary, and I can guarantee you results.
I felt the same as you did cold turkey, but the patches really are a godsend. Don't feel tempted to stop the course early, I went without yesterday and I was climbing the walls. Make sure you do the full 12 weeks, and even more if you have to.
Don't worry about the 'I'll have a fag and then do this' thing. That was what almost broke my resolve, but I'm only 2 weeks in and those moments are starting to disappear already so you really don't have long to wait before it starts to get better.
Everyone on this forum has felt the feelings you are getting, they are totally normal and from what I've read, will disappear eventually!
I believe that every ex-smoker, quit smoking because they try several times before they succeed. Therefore, if you’re looking for method to quit smoking I suggest that you start researching your habit. I’ve been smoker for over 12 years, and I quit for good.
I’m 100% sure that you need to find your own reasons but that’s up to your search for the truth.
