nodes and alcohol

I have non hodgkins, We went to a wedding and I had a few drinks, but this is not the first time I've noticed this, I'm hardly a drinker except for special occasions. So I been finding my lymph nodes sore to the touch in my neck mostly but they have been sore in other places too. Does anyone experience this? I was given an almost clean bill of health... probably should be avoiding alcohol all together. Anyone?

Yes, I have the same experience. I have Marginal Zone NHL and my symptoms flare up after I've been drinking (which I have quite a bit recently due to family gatherings etc!) I have heard it's common. I wonder if it's connected to the sugar content - I'm trying to avoid sugar too but Blimey, it's not easy!

I'm not drinking now for a few weeks and concentrating on detoxing my system and being more mindful of my health. I went off track for a while celebrating the end of my chemo! 😁

I too have mzl did you have your spleen out? I have to say I think you may be right about the sugar, I was on a totally sugar free diet and I felt great. Now I've fallen off the wagon I am feeling not so healthy . I think I'll be getting back on track now summer is winding down. Thanks for responding

I didn't have my spleen out. I did have 8 rounds of R-CVP. I'm seriously thinking of not drinking and have stopped the sugar again because I feel so much better without it. My haematologist has very little knowledge of MZL so she hasn't given me much advice. Hard to know what to do for the best.

I'm sure giving up sugar is a positive move. If nothing else one feels a great deal healthier

I've been reducing my sugars, too. I started this week. So far I am feeling a bit better. My muscles aren't as tight so going from sitting to standing is a bit easier (unless it's my imagination). I'm cutting back on starches and sugars as they also increase triglycerides in the blood (one of the cholesterol indicators), so I figure I'll be healthier for it and maybe even lose a pound or two!!

I have read a long time ago that alcohol can cause a reaction in problem nodes. This apparently can feel like soreness or squeezing (contraction) in the node. I have no idea whether this is harmful or not. I no longer drink any alcohol, despite not finding any studies that show it to be harmful; I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I don't drink either, but for a sip or two of my sister's home-made wine. I haven't noticed any swelling though. Maybe you should get it checked out.

I had T Cell Lymphoma, and as of June, it had been 2 years since my last treatment (Chemo & Radiation). I had also used a Natural Doctor throughout my treatments and co-ordinated my treatments, both natural & standard through the oncologist & the ND. I have completely stayed away from alcohol since starting my treatments. I also switched to using Stevia, and avoiding "most" sugary treats. I don't even have sugar in the house anymore. I go for my regular checks and still have a clean bill of health. Alcohol tends to do make anyone feel off, quite a bit, if they have had any type of Lymphoma. My ND advised me to stay away from it form now on. That was not a problem for me, as I was never much of a drinker at any time ( I had an alcoholic brother who died a horrible and painful death, form multiple forms of cancer, all related to his drinking ) and never did give drinking any sort of thought for myself. My ND had advised that drinking increases the chances of the lymphoma returning by quite a bit. So I have changed my diet, basically avoid sugars (I still do have some sticky bun on occasion and some cookies, et cetera, But I don't do it as an addictive thing. Just as a very odd treat. I don't eat any deli meats. I avoid pork completely (ND's advise as well) and eat a high fibre diet and take various supplements and a quality multi vitamin. I also start each day with lemon water & finish it as well, with the lemon water and a half teaspoon of baking soda added. I am doing quite well.

Thank you for this information, after reading this I am going to try to not indulge in any drinking from now on. I am also going to try your lemon water I know I don't drink enough water in general, time for me to reevaluate my lifestyle 😊
