I was wondering if anyone has had this experience. My 16mon old has been on PD since 2mons old. He was doing really well with eating until a few months ago. He regressed & barely eats anything by mouth so he got a Gtube about a month ago to help him supplement & not lag behind on weight. However he now vomits after almost every feed via Gtube & after he barely gets any amount. he recently has been vomiting after only receiving 50mls of formula. I even tried hand pushing & he still vomited after that.
His GI & nephrologists aren't sure what is causing this.
Anyone have any insight or experiences with this?
Thanks!

Do you have a nutritionist following? I have a baby now (not the one with CKD) and she is 6 months old with a G-tube and this is the exact issue for us... trying to optimize her feeding volume so she doesn't vomit. The nutritionist is coming to the house every week as we haven't gotten it just right. It really helps. Feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss further specifics.
Hi there. My daughter had a g-tube and was on dialysis (PD and HD) for over a year before her transplants. Vomiting was an ongoing issue for her the entire time. We gave her very slow overnight feeds (breast milk fortified with extra nutrients) and multiple boluses of that throughout the day all day long to allow her to keep the food down in order to grow. Unfortunately, renal disease causes nausea and many children cannot keep down their food or formula. Discuss with your doctor using medications like zantac or prilosec or pepcid to decrease stomach upset. Try slow feeds. I'm also happy to discuss further with you. Good luck!
Hi there , my son had a g-tube and was vomiting. The nephrologist couldn’t tell why. In my honest opinion it’s the formula that you are feeding your child. What I did was switched to real food blends which specifically for g-tube patients. I spoke with the nephrologist and the nutritionist before to make sure it was okay to do so. And they approved it, the nutritionist was able to give me a couple of sample packs. It worked for my baby , he no longer had any problems with vomiting. His appetite had increased and within about 6 to 8 months my son started eating by mouth. Ask about real food blends it was really a God send, my son would literally throw up all the time . Look up that product and speak with your kidney team about. I hope this suggestion helps you.
The food packets is real food has a protein , vegetable and fruit.
yes, we just got this checked out in our 6mo old daughter with HIE. She was vomiting all her feeds, and it turned out the balloon (3ml) was too close to her pylorus, blocking feeds from emptying out of her stomach. They did suspect a UTI at first, and looking back I do see protein and red blood cells in her urinalysis….but changing the 3ml button tube to a long Mic-Key tube with a 2ml balloon fixed her pain and vomiting and she began smiling for the first time. We had an edoscopy performed to find out about the tube. She has begun to have myoclonic seizures, and we’re taking her back bc her AED meds aren’t working, and after seeing her urinalysis I am hoping it’s not renal failure 😣
no G-tube but lots of vomiting for my kiddo 5 y.o. Now. The most helpful has been consulting with a GI doc and we started on ciproheptadine which helps him empty and reduces nausea. Worth a shot to consult another specialist. Good luck!
