My son has IGA. He went into a treatment of dialysis and chemo for 6 months. It did not work. Now, he is on the waiting list for a new kidney. His father and I started the process to see if we can donate a kidney. It has been a up and down road not only for my son but for me. He does not complaint about what is going on, only says it sucks. For me, it is very emotional, physical and financially draining. I do not have any idea where I can get help with anything so I am taking care of all by myself which makes me fatigue, use food to deal with stress and sometimes in a bad mood.

Is there help I or my son can apply for? Any suggestions will be appreciated

Hi - I'm sorry to hear you're going through all this. My son also has IGA, but is not ready yet for dialysis. I wish I could help you answer your question, but I don't the answer. There is a wonderful Facebook blog group that can help you though. If you go to FB and search for the group: 'Children with Iga nephropathy & HS Purpura'. The group is so helpful and has so much great advice to give. I'm sure someone in that group can help you. Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I would strongly encourage you to speak with your son's healthcare team - perhaps there is a social worker who can help you apply for financial assistance you and your son may be eligible for. Additionally they can help support you with the emotional aspects for both you and your son. Your son's doctor should be able to help refer you to these support professionals. All the best to you!
