Cholesterol troubles.

I am 2yrs. + post transplant. I have been having trouble with raised LDL cholesterol levels. I was wondering if anyone was having that trouble. Thanks a lot. Larry

I had cholesterol right after transplant but now I dont take cholesterol meds. After the new kidney starts working slowly the cholesterol will go down. Just blood work every 6 months to keep it in check. Assuming you are on a good diet and exercise regularly.

Yes, my cholesterol crept up after transplant, in spite of ideal lifestyle, so my endocrinologist put me on atorvastatin. I'm 3.5 years post. Seems it's different for everyone (like most things associated with transplantation).

My cholesterol crept up after about 2 years post transplant. I was started on Atorvastatin and am still on it today, nearly 20 years later. It has successfully brought my cholesterol down with no side effects.Good luck to you.

My doctor has switched me to Atorvastatin 80mg. I hope that takes care of it. Thanks for the reply.

I'm 2yrs post transplant and having issues with my cholesterol and sugar levels. The dietician at the transplant center hasn't been helpful at all.
