Does anyone got a tattoo mos/years after the transplant? What are the possible effect/s on the kidney? I am a recipient by the way.

I know there is an added risk for you when getting a tattoo. You are immunosuppressed so more at risk for an infection. This question definitely needs to be asked of your transplant team/nephrologist. I would think it would depend on your labs and if you are stable. An infection could hurt your new kidney.

I do know of someone that did get a tattoo 5 years after transplant. It was a double heart shape with recipients name and that of his deceased donor. He had just met his deceased donor's family. Was very special for the recipient.

Ask your nephrologist

I am 8 yrs post transplant. I actually got my kidney from a lady that passed from getting a tattoo. She was 36 yrs old with 2 kids. She got ceptic from the tattoo. My kids changed their minds after that. My donor's kidney was actually a little damaged when I was transplanted. Hope that helps. Good luck

Enjoy ur life!!!!! That's an advice that my neurologist at the time of my transplant told my parents when once they got worried beause I develop a cold he said shes normal shes gonna get a cold once in a while it definitely worked in my live and here I'm still im 19 years later with my dads gift and never had an infection or anything God has bless me 💚🙏.
