I am not sure about that. I got diagnosed at stage 4 with GFR at 17. I stopped eating meat and dairy, chocolate and went on a plant based diet. That was 2 years ago. I had my transplant 5 months ago. I was at 12 GFR and 3.75 creatinine at Transplant. I knew I did not want dialysis and was lucky. I now have GFR of 89 and creatinine of .79. I wish you the best!

Hi Dara3351, I’ve had my second transplant 9.5 years and have been considering going on a plant based diet for some time. Do you have any recommendations for good resources for someone starting out? Are you still doing plant based now that you’ve had your transplant? Thank you and all the best.

I went through researching foods for kidney disease. Initially my nephrologist told me no meat or dairy. I also stopped eating foods to avoid while dealing with CKD. I found a meal delivery kit called Veestro which is vegan! Loved the pad Thai! I also used other meal kits that offered vegetarian and vegan meals! Hoe that helps!

My doctor prescribed ketosteril when my gfr was 26. The kidneys lasted another 10 years. All the best.
