Hi y'all, how did those who got diagnosed get it done? I have been having stones off and on since 11 years old. On my third fourth batch and all require surgical intervention to remove. Kidney stones, fatigue, lower back degeneration and frequent utis plus high parathyroid hormone are my symptoms. Also chronic issues of upset stomach with nausea and vomiting/constipation.

If your blood tests consistently show CO2 at 22 or below, with a normal anion gap, and urine pH above 5.5, a nephrologist can recommend you to a specialist for further testing. Many will do an acid loading test to confirm RTA, but some research doctors feel that the blood tests are confirmation enough and they'll simply see if symptoms respond to alkali therapy.

If you're near California, UCSF health does some RTA stuff. There is also Dr. Joel Toph in Michigan and Dr. Fredric Coe in Chicago, IL. Dr. Coe specializes in disorders involving kidney stones.
