I know this was posted a while back but I figured I would put this out there. Even if they pull just a little too much fluid my blood pressure will drop below my base line…once it hits in the 90/60’s I’m on the verge of passing out. & it ALWAYS happens at the end of treatment when they do my standing blood pressure, as soon as I stand up, my BP drops :/ I become extremely clamy & my eye sight starts going black but as soon as they give me fluid, I’m good! I perk back up!
BP Dropping.: I know this was posted a while... - Kidney Dialysis
BP Dropping.
Why are they not adding fluid before. Do you do a sitting BP. If it is low then, get that saline flowing.
Sounds like they are pulling too much fluid. I always ask how much they plan on pulling and normally it's none cause I'm not retaining fluid.
They are pulling more than your dry weight. Ask them for +.5 Kilo increments every week or session. Say you are 100 kilo, and you can't walk after dialysis. Next time, tell them your dry weight is 100.5 Kilo, etc. One thing with dialysis, we all walk a dotted line, between bone dry and just wet enough. The center once had me down to 52 Kilo, I complained until they changed my dry weight to 55 as I couldn't drive home.
I am sure everyone's bodies are different. When my BP drops to low, they either A - Keep cleaning but stop pulling fluid (this helps alot), or they will lower the TEMP of the blood return 1 degree or 1.5 degree. This will get your BP back up. Only you know your body, sure they can see metrics, but that is not the full story. If you are dizzy or unable to walk, have them give you a quarter kilo, feel it out. Then get your legs moving/working while sitting in the chair. Get your blood flow moving.
Eventually you will find your dry weight assuming you don't change your food intake/types.
Dry weight also changes sometimes depending on your diet and health. So, if you gain body weight and keep pulling the same fluid out, then BP will drop. So, it would be right to increase your dry weight slowly.
I have a significant low blood pressure problem during dialysis too. Because I retain fluid pretty badly, in my case it’s not because they’re taking off too much fluid since I started dialysis, my blood pressure in general is much lower. 90/50 isn’t unusual for be.
My doctor prescribed midodrine which I take only on dialysis days 10 mg an hour or so before I start then another 5 mg about halfway through if needed.
You could ask your doctor if that might help. Good luck!
