Recently I had an UTI and while I was at the doctor we did a Urine sample. My creatinine/albumin ratio was 62 - normal is 0-29. Could this be due to the UTI? I am anxious now. I am prediabetic, have white coat syndrome, and lipid issues though my "ratio" is good. Do I need to cut way down on my protein? Thanks, Diane
creatinine/Albumin: Recently I had an UTI and... - Kidney Disease
creatinine/Albumin
I just saw your post. Yes, urinary tract infections can influence albumin and, consequently, the creatinine/albumin ratio. As one nephrologist told my hubby, the urinary tract cells have protein as a component. Because infections inflame and irritate, those cells located there can be washed out into urine - hence, lab reports based on urine samples can reflect elevated albumin, which is a protein. So urinary tract infections, not just kidney performance, can also play a role in things. After your uti is gone, your numbers will likely be better. You mentioned changing your diet. Please don't change your diet without talking to your doctor who, I'm sure, will take a good look at your labs.
