Couple days ago I received blood test results showing I had profound vitamin D levels. Also amongst the results again in the space of 6 weeks my creatine levels have risen as you can see from the screen shit of my results. Everything else including thyroid function was affected. I requested these tests as have been really tired all day long even after a good night's sleep and these were the findings. I have been out on high dosage vitamin D capsules 1 tablet a week for 7.weeks. I have taken my first one on Wednesday afternoon and yesterday I felt slightly better and had more energy.
One thing that concerns me though my gp recognises my kidney function is that on the leaflet supplied by the tablet said about various with kidney problems .

Hi Ruthy35, I am sorry that you are having such a difficult time. I am not sure what you mean when you say you have “profound Vit D” levels? Vit D is a fat soluble vitamin and can build up when your kidneys have diminished function. Is the Vitamin D level in your blood lower than normal?
Well whatever happened I have been feeling totally tired constantly and having 2 or 3 hour sleeps during the day and tired and a good night's sleep. As you can see from my results listed it is below minimum 23ml the doctor said should be about 100. I have stage 4 kidney disease single kidney. Lover thyroid all bloods all over the place due to the vitamin D deficiency as well showing very low and on high dosage of tablets to replenish and hopefully all the other functions will improve.onthe meantime.
I am happy to hear that you are feeling better with the Vit D supplement your doctor has ordered for you. I send you my best wishes for continued improvement in all your health concerns.
I never heard of vitamin D supplements being a problem with CKD, maybe its the high dose. Can you give your GP a call about it? I hope you can get your vitamin D levels and energy up. Maybe your eGFR will come up too. Hope so. Vitamin D seems to be important in a lot of ways. Good luck!
Like all medication it always carries a warning to kidneys on the info . I'm not on any dialysis or any other medication apart from thyroid tablets that were low dosage. So will see after 7 weeks but read likey body was shutting down kidney lover and all the other things.
I've also never heard of vit D being a problem and can only assume it refers to the risk of toxicity. But that shouldn't be a problem if blood level is tested regularly. There's scientific evidence of benefit for kidneys.
Vit D is a very delicate balance...while we need it at proper amounts, it is also easy to over dose on...I was low on Vit D witg a GFR of 24...I was put on the dose once a week, which proved to be too high and lost 4 GFR...They usually test your Vit D monthly, but while on Vit D therapy I wish they would have checked it weekly...
Low vitD can be a problem. Have doctor check your parathyroid levels and calcium. I was told when vutD and calcium are low your system starts taking it from your bones. And, you also have to watch high levels of vitD to prevent toxicity.. High and low vitD have to be monitored carefully.
Yes all my other levels came back really low against the vitamin D levels and I have thyroid issues to start with. I'm now wondering if this has been an issue for a few months as was constantly tired sleeping during the day and all night but still tired. Bines joints ached and had very little energy.
I'm sure low VitD is problematic. My parathyroid [nothing to do with the thyroid, I believe] level went higher and higher. New kidney doctor said it had to do with low VitD and calcium started me on Calcitriol which he slowly decreased over the next few months plus VitD tablets [50mcg] daily which i still take. Once the VitD level got back to normal, he stopped the Calcitriol and told me to continue taking the VitD daily. That's my story on low VitD. I know there are some on this forum who had problems with VitD toxicity when the levels got too high. VitD and calcium has to be carefully monitored. Good luck and keep us posted.
