I've had tinnitus for 40 years, from nerve damage when I was a teenager. I can even hear it in a noisy room now. You have to learn not to overreact or feel sorry for yourself or let it interfere with your life. Just notice it when you do, then take a few deep breaths and think of something else, maybe stuff you're grateful for or that makes you happy. That's what I finally learned to do. There's an organization in England, Tinnitus Talk that may be helpful. Some ear specialists will figure out which frequencies need to be masked and make a masking device for you. Good luck and sympathies, I remember how much I hated it at first.
My husband was diagnosed with high frequency hearing loss July of 2020. We were home for 2 months so the doctor is saying he probably had it before that but never noticed it because he works in a noisy environment. If it really bothers you, please let your ENT, audiologist or family doctor know. They can set you up with someone to talk to and they can help you learn to live with it without or with less anxiety.
I have had tinnitis for several years, and have been looking for a solution ever since it started. I found this video explaining the cause of tinnitis on youtube two days ago - youtube.com/watch?v=3MDO8KB...
I tried the technique on Monday and it worked to reduce my tinnitis - but apparently is does not work for everyone. But it is a harmless process so it seems safe to give it a try.
I have had it at least since my teens. A doctor told me years ago that he thinks mine is related to chronic ear infections, and having a ruptured ear drum more than once when I was a child. It has gotten worse as I get older, but no one has had any answer for me, or suggested anything that might be done for it. When it gets too loud for me to stand it, I do the technique shown in this video. That calms it down for a while, but it always comes back. I sleep with a white noise machine to help mask it at night, and I do my best to think of something else, or keep some low background noise around me. Then my husband suddenly shuts the tv off or mutes it without warning me, and I have to start all over again.
I had a severe bacterial infection in my sinuses and it spread out through my eustachian tubes. It got so bad that my left eustachian tube was bleeding and it caused damage to the inner ear parts as well. I've lost most of my hearing in that ear and I now have patulous eustachian tube. Because of all of this, I have tinnitus on the left side. In my case, the perceived sound varies in intensity. Sometimes it's really loud and other times it's minor. I have figured out that stress has an effect and seems to make it worse. For the most part, I am able to ignore the tinnitus even when it's fairly intense. I think a key is to not dwell on it.
