Wow . Iโm going to have pumpkin pie and pecan pie after my Turkey Mashed potatoes & gravy with Brussel sprouts and green beans , candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and homemade dinner roll. 14 pound Turkey... good grief I bought it before I learned Doc wasnโt looking at my labs .๐ฅฐ
Just spent the whole afternoon and evening on the kidney school very informative and lot more to read. Yesterday I had the kidney smart online class it was great too got couple of PDFs this am.itโs amazing that we donโt think much about organs and such when we are young now itโs smacking me in the face hard pill to swallow.BUT MOST WISHES FIR EVERYONE TO HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY ๐๐Bless yโall my friends...
I havenโt felt like I had friends in so many years thank you all your a blessing.
About a year ago her liver failed and I almost lost her ๐ญSo since then sheโs had nothing but her liver care dog food and water. But she seems to be doing good. Vet bills are so high but sheโs worth every penny ๐
Poor baby, and poor you. It's just horrible when our fur babies are ill or suffering. I'm glad the special formula diet is working. I know they can be expensive. My kitty Henry has Chronic Pancreatitis and the vet prescribed a food that was $125 and that would only last for 2 weeks. Luckily, Henry hated it and I found one for 75% cheaper in the Chewy.com prescription foods!!!
Happiest of holidays and a healthier new year to you and your Chi!
Lol they came I LOVE THEM๐itโs funny abuse my daughter has started getting the same illness I have and I gave her the reindeer pair she loved them . Iโve worn mine most all day I like the feel of them not too thin not too thick just right ๐
I'm glad you clarified "abuse" I was wondering what that meant. I haven't even had any spiked egg nog since I'm allergic to eggs.
I am so happy your doggie socks came. They are so comfy, aren't they. I love all of mine. I bet you're going to become an addict and get a huge collection like me. I may not love them as much come summer, I just started wearing them this fall and they are nice and warm but not too hot.
Iโm going to roast a chicken with skin on as I roast it but will eat without skin. I donโt eat much meat protein these days so this will be a treat for me. Then green beans with some slivered almonds. I love the apple cranberry coleslaw recipe on Davita so will make that again for Christmas. I had it at Thanksgiving. For dessert, apple cranberry crisp.
I can use the keft over roasted chicken to make a hit chicken salad that I love. I can then freeze that in individual servings which I can have once a week through January and early Feb.
Those are my plans hope everyone has a healthy and enjoyable holiday with family and friends!
Hi Bet, It's nice to meet another Veggie on here. We are a bit ahead of the game when it comes to plant based diets. My Renal Dietician told me I was the first one who didn't moan and whine when I heard I had to go plant based. I told her not to praise me too much since I've been a vegetarian since I was 10 y/o. She laughed.
Have a great rest of your holiday and a healthier new year.
I laughed when I read this. Our family is not Jewish, but we always eat Asian food with friends on Christmas. Happy holidays to you and your family. Enjoy your meal.
Hi Sophie,My dinner tonight is cheese lasagna with spinach in it. My family is having regular red sauce and meat lasagna with stuffed meatballs. And tomorrow, I am roasting a prime rib for them and fettuccini Alfredo with broccoli for me. Our treat is a sampling of small Italian cookies and cannoli's.
The thing with Davita recipes, they are always like that. The servings are tiny, but they are not kidney friendly. That's what happens when a company that makes millions on dialysis tries to support CKD.
Merry Christmas Sophie, and may the New Year bring you good health. Thanks for all the joy you bring to us.
Thanks for explaining about the DaVita recipes. That explains a lot. I hadn't looked at them much before yesterday and was rather surprised when I did look.
Your dinner sounds yummy. Alfredo sauce is so delicious. Don't you hate when you make the others a decadent meal and they all want to steal yours? I've had that happen with my vegetarian meals every time I'd go to a family pot meal and brought something I'd be able to eat without meat.
It sounds like you're going all out cooking a big meal. Enjoy the cookies and cannolis!!!
Merry Christmas and a healthier new year. I am happier for all the new friends I've made here since joining the forum.
My treat will be coconut Shrimp, saffron rice, and green peas. Dessert will be cheesecake. Then, back to grilled veggies and fresh fruit on Sunday. But, believe it or not I remember fondly roast Turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans with almonds, but I'm missing these items less and less.
And, before anyone jumps all over me for the sodium content of my meal, please know my labs show I'm very low sodium!!๐so I'm trying to correct it.๐ฅฐ
Hoping you all enjoy your holiday and whatever feast you share with others. ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐
I too have low sodium and low potassium which is why my dietician said I should have potatoes or even potato chips once a week. Well, since it's on medical orders I force myself LOL
Do you have low BP? I do, so I was wondering if the low sodium connection worked out that way for you as well.
Your Coconut shrimp and saffron rice sound wonderful. I got a tin of saffron threads and have been looking for good recipes to use it. I think it would be wasted on quinoa, but I'll try it on rice.
No, my BP is not low. It runs 120/70s to 130/80s. However, sodium runs on the lowest end of normal. Potassium is low normal. I do anchor some of meals with some type of potato: roasted wedges, baked, or boiled red skin with butter and garlic. The red skin is the lowest sodium. I use the low sodium Saffron rice from a package. It's been a favorite of mine for years. I hope for now I dont get more restrictions from my labs. At least not until I get better rooted in the vegetarian recipes.
That's your secret rice. It comes with the saffron, sounds good.
My sodium and potassium after have the "L" next to them on my labs. I have to watch my electrolytes don't get any lower or it can affect the heart. I wish we could just pick one organ and stick with that problem LOL
I have had low sodium on and off and have low to low normal BP as well.
My PCP has me taking a shot glass and a half of Gatorade Zero every morning for years. I also will use oilve oil and wine vinegar salad dressing sparingly with label count about 215 mg sodium every few days and it has helped. The rest is in foods naturally.
My grandmother used to always marinate thinly sliced cucumbers in red wine vinegar and garlic salt. They were so delicious. I kept trying to make them but they were never even close to as good as hers. I think she held out some secret ingredient LOL
I was making my own electrolyte drink with organic mango juice, salt, and baking soda. It works the same without the food coloring. I guess it just slipped my mind, thanks for reminding me to start again. I'll pick up juice on Monday. I have the rest.
Hi, have you tried coconut water as an electrolyte replacement - itโs natureโs version of it without the added sugar and artificial colourants. And you could simply flavour that or blend it in a smoothie too.
Ya, seems odd that it isn't more kidney-friendly! Friends invited me over for dinner today...prime rib and I don't know what else. I'm just glad I don't have to cook! I rarely eat red meat, so a small piece of the prime rib will be ok. It's probably been 2+ yrs since I've had red meat like that. Not against it, just not my favorite, and since I'm now watching protein, it won't be added back I to my routine anyway. Enjoy your lemon cake!
I hope you enjoyed the Prime Rib. It was probably a nice treat for a special occasion. My lemon cake was so yummy. But my tummy regretted it. Even my kitty had a little lick of frosting off my finger.
