A GFR of 19 indicates that you are in stage 4 of chronic kidney disease. Diabetes and hypertension are the leading causes of CKD. Talk to your doctor about treatment options for end stage renal disease. It is important to avoid a high sodium, high potassium, and high processed food diet. You also want to avoid high levels of phosphorous and sugar. Ask your doctor to refer you to a dietician that can make an individualized meal plan for you.
I also have type 2 diabetes and medication resistant hypertension. I am also at and gfr of 19. I am 48. Already got my fistula for dialysis when that needs started. Also have congestive heart failure with function at 23%.
So sorry Thomas. I pray for my spouse & all CDK patients.
