Eating and Drinking with Kidney Disease
Hi KGsrKGsr, both my Mom and I have stage 3 kidney disease. My Mom does complain about food and drinks either not tasting like much at all or foods tasting bad. She says she gradually lost her sense of smell and then taste. I don't know if she ever asked her kidney doctor about it or not, but she doesn't enjoy eating as much as she use to. I'm sorry you are having this problem too.
🙁
Right before I started dialysis I would sometimes have a metallic taste in my mouth, which also made food in general just not appetizing. I just wasn't able to enjoy food because few things tasted good to me. This was in stage 5 when my GFR had actually dropped all the way to 3 before I started dialysis. My nephrologist would've started me earlier except we were so close to getting a transplant that he thought I could bypass dialysis altogether. Unfortunately my donor was not able to donate a kidney at the last minute. After I started dialysis, most of my nausea went away and food started to taste better.
If your eGFR is still 89 like in your last post, this has nothing to do with your kidneys.
You won't have any symptoms until you are well below eGFR of 60 which the labs still consider to be normal results.
Go see a dentist. Get a teeth cleaning.
