Rapid drop in GFR

Satanslittlehelper profile image

First of all I don't actually have Kidney Disease but I'd really appreciate some advice etc. Within the space of 2 months my eGFR has dropped 12 points from 78 to 66. This seems quite a dramatic drop in a short space of time. Am I worrying over nothing? I should add I take Lithium for mental health issues, I fear its actually taking it toll on my kidneys.......

The eGFR is an estimate of your Glomular Filtration Rate. Your Doctor will likely consider results form previous and future tests. My Doctor does an average. Many reasons could cause the change. Are you using same blood draw facility? That could be reason.

Hi, many thanks for the reply. Yeah it is the same place each time. I have a follow up blood test on Monday and I guess what happens next depends on the results. I'm probably worrying over nothing but iv had nothing explained to me by the nurse or doctor as of yet

You have come to a good forum for information on kidney disease. Hope your eGFR test levels off.

Hello Satanslittlehelper - you didn't mention how long you have been on lithium. There is information about lithium and kidney health here: kidney.org/atoz/content/lit...

It's great you have a follow up blood test on Monday. Check in with your MD after you have that result if you are still concerned or have questions.
