My 94 year old dad’s GFR has been going dow... - Kidney Disease
My 94 year old dad’s GFR has been going down 1% per month for the last year. It is 15. Will it go down faster the closer It gets to zero?
A person's GFR does go down as we age. How is he feeling? Are there other numbers in decline along with accompanying health issues? What are his doctors telling him? Sorry for the questions but the best thing is for you to speak to him and his doctors to get specific answers.
Hi Canary,
We cannot predict how someone kidney function will decline or not. You might want to check his diet out to see if what he is eating, like lots of red meat. Changing his diet to a more kidney friendly diet MIGHT slow the progression. I know it did for my father-in-law who was 94.
He doesn’t want to do dialysis. We are just gonna do palliative care. Hospice when it’s time. It is Hard to talk to the doctor in front of my dad cause he doesn’t want to hear the bad news. I was just mostly curious if most people on average the GFR goes down faster the closer to zero it gets. There is nothing on the internet about how things go after someone reaches GFR 15.
He is starting to show some symptoms, swelling feet, itching more than usual, a little nauseous.
See if your Dad's doctor knows about Acacia Senegal powder. I've read that it is used by people that don't wish to do dialysis or it is not available to them. There is information on the internet and I get mine through Amazon. I sleep with my feet elevated to help take care of the swelling and itching. My bed is adjustable. 94, wow!
Does anyone know of anywhere on the internet to that people have posted their experiences of how their GFR went down after they reached 15?
I am 62...my GFR has been at 15 for about 13 months now...but it has alot to do with diet and what caused your kidney disease
