Hi everyone. I have Polycystic Kidney Disease and have officially been in kidney failure since February of 2017. I'm scheduled to receive a living donor transplant from my sister in June and I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone has any tips or advice going into this. All responses are welcome, whether it be tips for healing, tips to make the hospital stay easier, tips resources available to help financially or any other way during this time. Thanks in advance!

I received a kidney from my sister last August. I would say to definitely take it easy for a while after surgery and drink lots of water. The pain really isn’t too awful. Trying to walk afterwards is a little rough, but it gets easier. Also, don’t be overwhelmed by the amount of medication you will be taking. It should decrease over time. I wish you and your sister the best through surgery and recovery.

I’m a living donor as of 4 days ago! It’s such a great feeling. As a donor the pain (for me) is a bit rough but definitely manageable. My surgery was Tuesday and I was home Wednesday night! Get up and walk as soon as you can it will feel good. Drink lots of water to help with the sore throat. And bring your toothbrush because you’ll probably get cottonmouth. Feel free to PM me if you want.
