Degenerative Disc Disease

I have several autoimmune diseases including Sjogrens, Lupus, Vasculitis, Chronic Fatigue & Fibromyalgia. Several years ago I had my neck fused. I also had an MRI of my neck & spine last year. I recently had another MRI of my neck & spine. I am told by my Rheumatologist that the deteriorating of both that has taken place in the last year is way beyond what she feels could be caused by autoimmune disease. I have to wait 3 more months to see a spine specialist. Does anyone have feedback on why this might occur?

I’m almost 77, and I also have degenerative disc disease, (badly trapped neves in my lumber and cervical spine being monitored by a neurosurgeon), also Crohn’s, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, CPDD, osteoporosis and I have had iritis and probably more which I can’t recall!! I’ve had both hips replaced and two bowel resections. Strangely, I have never had any fractures despite having a number of very bad falls. I’ve developed scoliosis over the years. I wonder why your rheumatologist connects your autoimmune conditions with your DDD? As far as I’m aware, mine never has. I’ve assumed it’s just down to wear and tear from years of dragging or being dragged all over the place by big dogs and horses! 😆 I’m seeing her soon. I shall ask.
