Yes indeed. And they're not the easiest things to get fixed either! Has your leak been confirmed? Do you have an experienced specialist lined up to treat you?

There can be a relationship between CSF leaks and trauma, as well as CSF leaks and idiopathic intra-cranial hypertension (IIH). What is causing the leak (trauma or high pressure 'safety-valve' origin) is very likely to affect the success of treatment.

Here's a reference to a website that I found useful:

inspire.com/groups/spinal-c...

Also, information about the work carried out by this specialist in Addenbrooke's Cambridge might be worth reading:

jnnp.bmj.com/content/74/12/...

Dr Wouter Schievink in Cedars-Sinai in the USA is probably the world's leading expert on the topic of CSF leaks. His details can be found at:

cedars-sinai.org/provider/w...

Dr Schievink is unusual in that he has a history of being willing to examine detailed MRI and CT myelogram scans from patients in the UK to offer an opinion on the presence/status of a CSF leak, if they seek his advice.

I hope you find the above info helpful!

ahhh yes,,And I will NEVER forget the headache,,,had one day knee surgery using a spinal block rather than anesthesia at an ambulatory surgery clinic,,,sent home same day without regard that if you move,,spinal fluid can leak and give you this unforgettable headache,,,even after lying flat for hours before getting into my hubby’s truck for the 50 m ride home,,,I thought I would die from the pain intensity to the point of vomiting most of the way home,,ended up heading for the ER of a local hospital ,being admitted overnight and kept under sedation with dilaudin,,,,released the next day feeling only a tad human,,,it is something I never dreamed in degree of pain,,,nothing else in my 75 years can ever compare to that,,,I will never have a spinal again!
