C section 4 weeks ago and feeling ill

Hi guys,

Just wanted to ask a question. I had my c section 4 weeks ago and have probably been doing too much, however now I’m starting to not feel right and have flu like symptoms! Is this normal?! My scar seems fine just got pain on one side as the numb feeling is wearing off a bit but it’s just this flu feeling, could it be an infection?!

Any advice appreciated

Xx

Hey

Congratulations, I keep meaning too write too you to see how everything else, but I have just seen you id a little boy, congratulations. How are you both doing?

You ended up with a c section- not the best but is the safest way.

Are you breast feeding? I had flu like symptoms and a ended up being mastitis. x

Hello lovely!

We are both doing fab thanks, he’s amazing and such a good boy altho suffering with constipation and colic but we seem to be getting on top of that now bless him! How are you?!

And totally true, wasn’t the best experience after 3 days in labour and then told all along I could have gone for an elective c section but my consultant never told me! At that point tho I just wanted him here safe and after 3 days I was only 4cm dilated 😩!

I’m not breast feeding, we are bottle feeding however my boobs are so sore and itchy, idk if it’s possible to get mastitis if I’m not breast feeding 🤷🏼‍♀️ But just not feeling great at all so I’m not sure if it’s an infection or what! Xx

If you've stopped breast feeding completely without tapering it off, it is likely to be mastitis.

I'd say to go to your doctor and get checked out as you might need antibiotics, you might also need to express or have express to get relief.

You may even still be able to go back to breast feeding if your still producing milk.

Go to the gp and get it checked, no need to take chances. Don't overdo it with the c section, I'm 5 weeks in and went for a shopping trip the other day, now bk in pain since 2 days when I was feeling completely fine prior to that :/

Hope you've "only" got the flu and speedy recovery! X

Been to Gp today and I’ve got a water infection and possible cellulitis in my scar so have to keep an eye on it and head back next week for antibiotics😩! It’s so hard to not over do it I think because you just want to be back to normal!

Thanks for the Message! I hope you are feeling better bless you xx

Oh no :(! And they didn't give you antibiotics today? I'm hoping it clears up on its own but if you don't start feeling better go sooner than later. I find it pretty frustrating as well as my c scar is nicely healed and all great but I got a hematoma which is this horrible bruise where some blood escaped during the operation so that's now halting my recovery as it keeps aching :/ hoping it will go by week 8-10.

Hope you recover soon too but don't overdo it until you're definitely out the woods it's not worth it and I totally feel your frustration, I just want to be healthy again so I can take care of my little one without worry.

No they only gave me antibiotics for my water infection! She didn’t want to give me antibiotics for my scar just incase as it’s not leaking just looking raw and red🤷🏼‍♀️ Wish she’d just given me some tho as I know I’m going to have to go back! Aww omg bless you that sounds awful 😩 hoping it heals up nicely for you and quickly. You take it easy too lovely.

Deffo not going to over do it now this is totally my warning! Xxx

I think if you are worried it’s best to get yourself checked out at your gp. Because it takes atleast 6-8 weeks to fully heal from a surgery of that magnitude. I hope u realise that it was not a minor surgery . Take care of urself

Thankyou I’ve been to gp and have water infection and possible cellulitis so have to keep an eye on my wound and head back next week! I know it’s major surgery I think as a woman you just want to plod on but sometimes you have to understand you just can’t after something like this! X

Thanks so much xx

Sorry you’re feeling unwell. But maybe take this as a sign/permission to slow down? It IS major surgery, like you say. You’ll have plenty of time to be running at full capacity soon but it’ll take longer to get there if you don’t rest now x

You are so right! Thankyou so much! I know we all try to just be like Wonder Woman at times buy I’m deffo gunna slow down xx

I am sorry you aren’t feeling well that’s hard with a newborn ( been there)

I haven’t had a c section so can’t offer advice on that but my health visitor did tell me to take it easy for 6 weeks post pregnancy as it takes that long for the body to get back to “normal” after a baby & that was just a natural birth so I’d imagine a c section is even longer recovery. The process of having a baby is very demanding on the body & there is no easy way to have a baby!

I hope you have friends & family nearby that are able to offer you a hand so you can take it a bit easier . Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and you feel better & the scar starts stops hurting & starts healing better. If you are still not okay go back xxx
