Our newborn (13 days today) is suffering horrible trap winds. He seems to manage ok at night but during a day he would sleep and all of the sudden his face gets red, his body all stretched and he would scream. Nothing seems to help I would hold him in any position possible but he would just scream for few minutes and then settle and this would continue whole day long. We started using colif with milk as per suggestion of health visitor and this has helped to make his poop regular (it is very wet now but I read this is common when you start colif) I do massage him At every occasion when he is settle and not sleeping and sometimes this helps to let some gas out but not enough to stop him being in pain. I am loosing my mind I feel I can’t bond with the baby as all the awake time is full of pain and scream and if brakes my heart seeing him so uncomfortable. It is 21st century is there really nothing that can be done to help the baby ? Help please if you have any advise?

I found gripe water to help and tbh a little bit of cooled boiled water that helped loads x

Thank you . We will try gripe water in few days as it says to use it from 2 weeks and he will be 2 weeks tomorrow. We are giving him a little water already.

Our daughter is still suffering a bit with colic at 4 months old.

Some things I found helped - bathing her I like to use baby bedtime it’s got lavender & camomile which are soothing , colic drops before her feeds during her colic time hers was during the night 😳, a probiotic I used from 8 weeks as that is the recommended age, gripe water is good but it can’t be used till they are 1 month old, moving her around walking sometimes shifted it, I tried to wind her between feeds & after every feed but that didn’t always stop it. I also used cool boiled water.

Experts said it’s just a phase they’ll grow out of it & not much can be done but as a mum it’s horrible watching your baby get so upset. I hope you can find something that helps your little boy feel better xxx

Thank you. I know there is few more things that can be tried when he is older but as he is not even 2 weeks we are so limited. You are right even if I know it is very common and it will go away at some point it is just heartbreaking to see him in pain.

My husband used to squash our baby's legs up towards his torso to help ease the pain. It seemed to help baby with wind. That and bicycle legs.

Hope baby gets over this soon!

We tried infacol, but didn’t do anything, so we tried gripe water and it was brilliant, we still use it now 7 months later, trying too wean her off it, she misses 1-2 times and doesn’t seem too get trapped wind anymore x
