Gastational diabetes

Hi

I was diagnosed with gastational diabetes at 30 weeks and put on insulin 4 X daily. They are estimating my baby To weight around 8lb 6. My bump is massive but also I'm carrying to much water. I'm 5.2 and a small frame! Has anyone had similar experiences? So concerned about size of my baby!

I am a small frame and 5'3. My first 2 were 9lbs 4oz. I didn't have the diabetes. They tested me several times though.

How many weeks are you now? I had GD and had my baby at 39+2 as he waseasuring big so had an elective csection. He was born weighing 10lbs 10oz! I had polyhydramasis too (excess water) so he was mainly fluid.

My advice would be to initiate skin to skin immediately and give breastfeeding a good go. Both of these things have loads of benefits but mainly will help raise you baby's blood sugar levels and help limit any further action being necessary. My son was totally fine and his blood sugars good but I kept him on me almost constantly (skin to skin - maybe pack a night shirt for ease of front access) as well as BF which made a big difference.

I am 36 weeks, booked in to be induced next week!

I also am carried too much fluid.
