Exposure to white spirit fumes.

Looking for some assurance that we're not over reacting as first time parents .. Grandad to be has spent a couple of hours in our unventilated garage working on a metal cabinet. During this time he has used half a bottle of white spirts to clean it. Unfortunately it was directly beside our car new born cot which was not in packaging.. That was hours ago and even the utility stinks of the fumes. Should we be concerned as replace the unit. Baby due in 9 weeks. Any advice please?

I think You're worrying too much , but I totally understand you!

(I am more worried about your father in law for inhaling all those fumes)

If I were you- I would just make sure I vent them properly because in my understanding- the white spirit was not used on baby's cot - so it has been only exposed to fumes.

Good luck with everything!x

I personaly think you are over reacting baby isnt due for another nine weeeks just move the cot into a different are away from where the fumes are lingering. The danger was more to your father in law, there wont be anything eft on the cot by the time baby is here as long as you ventilate it and give it a wipe down.

Sounds like an over reaction. Put the cot in some fresh area wash any bits that are washable (if any). I'm sure it will be fine

I wouldn't use pot pourri just aerate the room. Pot pourri is full of artitifical Fragrance and it's not going to remove fumes, just add new ones. With babies less is more and they are sensitive.
