Hi congratulations on your pregnancy. I totally understand your anxiety having lost 2 babies myself, I now have 3 children and am 7weeks pregnant with number 4. Early scans are possible through gp's or midwife however I think they are preferred to be carried out after 8 weeks as sometimes before then heartbeat cannot be seen there causing more worry to yourself. Also there are many private scans available and they may offer them from 6 weeks. There is also a chance that early scans are internal, just In case you didn't know. Just because you have had a lose before doesn't mean it will happen again wish you all the best xx

I too suffered a miscarriage last year and have just found out I am around 5-6 weeks. Receptionist at the health centre says I should wait until 8+ weeks before seeing a midwife. I am anxious with what happened last time. Any advice ladies? X

I had a missed miscarriage in February 2014. This means the baby died but my body did not proceed to evacuate the tissues and baby so I needed a D&C. I was devastated and still am after 13 months. It took my husband and I 6 months to conceive a 2nd time. I am now 30 weeks pregnant and waiting anxiously for the arrival of our son. This being said, this 2nd pregnancy has been nothing but stressful. I went for an ultrasound at 6 weeks and a few days (as I had with the first pregnancy and had a HR detected and fetal pole) but all they could see was the aminiotic sac, no fetal pole, no yolk sac and no HR. This made me worry so much more that I might have a blighted ovum (yet another miscarriage). I was instructed to come back at 8 weeks for another scan; this time there he was and I got to hear his HR. Yes pregnancy after a miscarriage is stressful, but do take it a day at a time, take care of yourself and do not read too much internet posts...they make it worse! Listen to your doctor. Good luck with everything!

I had a couple of miscarriages in the past too and I can understand how worried you can be and that you want to know if everything is ok with the pregnancy. Nowadays, we know we are pregnant very early on and we are more aware of miscarriages than our mothers who thought their periods were late.

You can have an early scan. They usually do it around 8 weeks of pregnancy and it is internal. They will check the heartbeat and whether the foetus is viable.

You should talk to your doctor about your worries and anxieties in this respect and he will be able to refer you for the scan as early as possible. Mine did.

I hope that everything is fine for you this time. But if not, please do not despair, it will work! I am now 35 weeks pregnant with my third child and I had two miscarriages before my first baby.

I wish you all the best!

Hi Phebie,

Have you had any luck in getting your early scan? My midwife contacted me and said she cant see me for 2 weeks when I'll be 8 weeks plus and then she'll organise my first scan for 12 weeks. But I still have the pains and GP said I could get a scan because of that. So Im going to go back and see what he says!

Congratulations. ask your GP to refer you to the Early pregnancy assessment unit (EPAU) in your local hospital for a scan and reassurance. the EPAU manages early pregnancy and provides support to woman in the first 12 weeks. good luck , hope everything goes well :)
