As of February, I have migrated from a rollator to a wheelchair. As many of you know, getting on and off a toilet can be challenging. I am looking into getting a "comfort height" toilet but want your perspective. The regular toilet measures 15 1/2 inches from the floor to the top of the seat. From what I have found comfort height toilets measure 17 inches. This does not seem like much additional height. What has been your experience.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark. Well, here's a subject I know something about! I replaced two standard round toilets in my house about five years ago with comfort height toilets with elongated seats. I cannot say enough what a big difference it has made. The comfort height toilets range from 17-19 inches (with the seat down). Mine are 18 inches with the seat down, which is the same height as my dining room chairs. So much easier to get up and down! And, if you need additional support, you can look into toilet grab bars. There are many designs, some freestanding that just fit around the toilet without having to be attached to the walls. Hope this info helps. Take care.
My house came with a higher toilet, and I love it! I don't know the exact dimensions, but I have to watch myself in other people's homes, because I forget that their toilet is lower.
I don't know where you'd get one, but I've seen elevated toilet seats. I want to say they're 4"-6" high and seem to just attach like a normal seat. Something like that might be cheaper than replacing your entire toilet.
I just remolded one of my bathrooms it has the comfort height toilet in it. I am also in a wheelchair it does make it easier to transfer on and off. Well worth it.
Mark, you can get toilet up to 21 inches tall. They range from about $275 to about $350 if you shop around. That would definitely make a big different and would make it much easier to get on and off the toilet. If you're in a wheelchair inside your home, you should look into getting something like a Jazzy scooter or a HoverRound because they really make it much easier to get around. I got very lucky with my jazzy scooter and found onee, that looked basically brand new, at GoodWill and swept it up for a mere $35! That was the steal of the century since they usually cost over a thousand dollars used. Then about 2 weeks ago I found a second jazzy scooter. Added a different good will, and it was price between $200-$300. It did have some ware on it, but it looked O k, and that is still a good deal. Goodwill's always give you 10 days to try things out and return them if they don't work or you don't like them. So you really have very little risk involved in buying one and taking it home. To find these kind of. deals at Goodwill's, you really have to be dedicated about looking at different, Goodwill's consistently. My Jazzy makes it easy for me to get on and off the toilet with one safety bar to help me pull up. I hope this helps. Take care and remember together we are stronger! Fancy59.
I'm 5'4" and not sure I love my comfort height toilet... yes easier to get up but my feet do not go flat on floor so on bad balance days I don't feel secure
My buddies wife has her third Go Go scooter she uses in the house along with a slide board for toilet 🚽 and recliner for easier access. Has worked great for her as she has been wheelchair bound for 15 years now. Good luck with decisions. I have handicap toilets 🚽 in both bathrooms and it’s a lot easier 👍🏼
