I had my first MS-related trip and fall (I have come close before but never hit the ground). Saturday, I was walking in our historic downtown area with my husband. The sidewalk was uneven and I was holding his hand which generally helps me keep my balance, but we had been walking for long enough that my drop foot on my right side was acting up just enough to catch an uneven part on the sidewalk, and down I went. It was a good solid fall on concrete, amazing that I didn't break anything. It all happened right in front of a crowd eating outside of a restaurant just across the street. I didn't feel one bit of embarrassment though.....I was just worried about my body. Lesson learned, NOW I will always use my walking sticks.
I hope you all had a beautiful weekend without any falls, but if you did, I hope that you too didn't break any bones - HURRAY!!

RTR1, I'm sure glad you didn't hurt yourself or break anything. Good for you for not being they being embarrassed. You can't help that you have MS and falling is part of the equation. Besides using your walking sticks the next lesson from here you need to learn are signs that your body is telling you you've done enough. When you noticed your foot drop was getting worse that was the time to stop at that cafe and take a break and let your body rest. I know when I started having falls, and I've had more than I can count, ìt's hard to stop because you're used to being able to do so much more. But in the long run falling sure isn't worth it cause eventually you wind up hurting yourself. Thinking of you and please be careful! Together we are stronger! Fancy59.
BTW, if you all use an AFO that helps with foot drop, will you send me a link to purchase? I have an AFO that attaches to my tennis shoe through my laces and up around my ankle (of course I wasn't wearing it Saturday....another lesson learned) but I think that I need something more substantial (but also comfortable). Thank you in advance!!!
i got my AFO measured for me by a service recommended by my physical therapist. insurance covered it. Off the rack might not work as well. Please be careful and don't over-do.
Sorry you fell, but happy to hear you are ok. My AFO was fitted and ordered by the hospital. Insurance paid for it. A few years later, it stopped working (after I bought truckloads of special shoes).
scary stuff it’s almost like a bad dream you know your going to fall I actually think there is a right way to fall. My last fall broke ankle 7screws and a plate. Definitely MS related days after last Ocrevus. Sooooo happy you are okay. Please don’t let it stop you from what you were doing I think you nailed it bring walk g stick/cane just in case.
seems that they are with some one watching but again is good if you need help...so glad nothing broken...take care ...so sorry about that ...i have lots of those darn things called falles or a trip ...hahha not the ones where you are going some where to have an enjoyable time for a vacation or to visit someone...take care and watch out for those uneven sidewalks or roads ...i don't really think the canes would of stopped it but never know ...take care and be safe on the next walk .....loved that you were holding hands ,so sweet....love and happiness can make it seem so much better...
i'm glad you didn't hurt yourself too badly. i'm not sure why, but i'm likelier to fall on new surfaces. perhaps the brain becomes accustomed to the floors we walk most often? be safe.🤗
sure glad u r ok!I believe i am the queen of falling and breaking things, like you i sure don't embarrass anymore, it is what it is.what i have found is a bunch of kind people come arunnin!
