Good morning my beloved ms family. I have a question, stemming from a book I have been listening to.
How many of "YOU" are gluten-sensitive? Just curious.
Royce (your ms writer and Brother)
Thanks for your response

Yes, I have a gluten sensitivity, Royce
I thought I was, but it turns out that it’s fiber that ruins my life/causes IBS. Fun fact: some gluten free additives contain transglutaminase, which is a chemical that can cross the blood brain barrier. It’s mostly known for its use in meat glue. Feel free to fact check those, it’s a fun rabbit hole.
Whatcha reading?
Reading Grain Brain by ? Yes, it is an amusing rabbit hole to go down. For me, I like more wild meat fewer Carbohydrates, but that is just me. I do not know about Gluten issues, I should get tested.
I don’t think I’ve read it, but I know what you’re talking about. It’s Perlmutters first book. I think I’ve read part of his second one and the main take always from him are coffee/mct’s/ intermittent fasting/exercise (things most of us can do regularly, easily). Eh, waste of time I think. Better to spend your money on more...what’s your game of choice? I’ve found a local duck sausage that I’m enjoying weekly lately 🎉
I am jealous, duck sausage yum. I used to get a really good sausage in Atlanta years again but never been able to find it's like again. No, I was mostly just curious to see other peoples experiences with gluten, I am pretty sure it is not causal in ms, but who knows
Meat glue?
It's what holds so many of the "manufactured meats" and other processed food items together - e.g. chicken nuggets, tinned ham, and some other non-meat products.

It is exactly what it sounds like
Ah, Yes, Grain Brain. It has some interesting information in it, but it's a bit of a "make money with my own brand of bandwagon" type of book. (Yes, I have the book, and Yes, I've read it)
Many people who think they have a gluten problem don't have a gluten problem at all - it's actually a FODMAP problem. They'll get tested and find there is no gluten problem, but because going gluten free is flavour of the decade a lot of people have rushed to join the party - and they stay there regardless of the lack of any proper evidence that they need to avoid gluten . There's also quite a lot of conviction among those who find they don't have a gluten problem that by remaining gluten free they are doing something healthy for themselves - which is often BS because in avoiding foods that contain gluten they are not only often missing out on valuable nutrients, but consuming other unhealthy substitute ingredients which are needed to make many gluten free products tolerable to eat.
Double blinded experiments have been run where people who are convinced they have a gluten problem are given foods containing gluten over periods of several weeks and they have no problems or "symptoms" of gluten intolerance.
It is important not to get gluten sensitivity or intolerance mixed up with coeliac disease which is a serious disease where the body suffers a severe reaction if gluten is consumed. Only proper medical tests will tell someone if they do have a legitimate gluten issue, so if someone thinks they do have a problem they should get tested. If the result is negative then ditch the gluten avoidance and look at FODMAPs instead.

Thank you so very much. I am listening to the book and had queries, thank you so much for your information.
Asked my gastroenterologist and he said no. He agreed with me that it would be a shame to stop eating bread if I didn’t have to based on assumptions 😂
