You have friends here nep420_ 😊 can I ask, how long ago were you diagnosed?

And yes, heat and humidity can be an evil evil thing for us!!! I know that I can actually get sick if I'm not careful.πŸ™

So you try very hard to stay cool, with AC and cooling products!

Check out mymsaa.org/msaa-help/coolin... for an application!

And get neck wraps!! See greaterexp

How's that working for you?πŸ€” πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ Sry.. bad joke... Ignoring it... Well if you have no symptoms and taking a DMT (disease-modifying treatment) you can ignore it.☺️

Humidity is not my friend just like jesmcd2 said try to stay in AC I can tell when a hurricane is starting up down in islands 🌴. My legs don’t want to work. I keep cold packs in the freezer. Now in the winter the bitter cold works like that also and I have a heating pad.

For now stay cool 😎

I wanted to let you know something I had gone into it and show a few years back and I knew was going to be very hot so I took a plastic bag with me and at one point I asked my husband to go up to one of the people that was selling drinks and I asked him to get me some ice from one of the coolers which she did and I enjoyed that ice sitting on my knees. Just putting it out there so maybe you can enjoy it your time in the island much better. Have a great vacation bye for now.

Yes to everything you asked. Be careful being out in this heat and humidity. It’ll hit you without warning. Be safe and glad to meet you.

nep420_ , the weather here has been unusually wet and rainy for August. Normally it's 100Β°+ for most of the month. The temps have been quite a bit lower for this time of year, the humidity has been way higher. I was feeling better in July @ 112Β° and dry than I am at 90Β° &71% humidity. The last week has been really tough on me. Spasticity, neuropathy, trigeminal neuralgia is way up. I kinda just push through the day till evening taking my muscle relaxers about 8pm so i can get confortable enough to sleep. If I don't sleep well, that makes it even worse. Stress & anxiety, lack of restful sleep and heat (humidity also) are my biggest adversaries.

Sry to hear that? Where are u from? So working over night can be bad for me?

Allen5280 profile image
Allen5280β€’ in reply tonep420_

I live in Oklahoma. I don't know about necessarily working overnight as long as you are getting adequate sleep. I often suffer from insomnia from time to time. I'm not sure why but at times I feel my best a 3am?πŸ€” it may be due to the time of year and the heat of the day. I recently had started a new medication to help combat my extreme fatigue issues and it has got me back on a normal schedule and I've been able to do more in the mornings before the heat sets in.

Hi this is a ssdw1958 I would like to know the name of that medicine I have not had a good night sleep in so long. I may sleep for 2 hours and when I do that I think that’s a good thing. But I know it's not.

Its Modafinil a generic for provigil... he has me take 1/2 a 200mg tablet in the morning and the other 1/2 before noon. If I take it any later I won't sleep at night. My insurance denied it at first but my neuro appealed it for me.

I lived in denial for ten years. After getting slammed down one too many times, I gave in and retired. I love in Florida and deal with the humidity with 🐸 toggs. froggtoggs.com/cooling/

You can also get them on Amazon. I keep two wet and in the fridge. I use one and my neck and one inside my hat. Just dip in cold water to recharge. Love them.

Welcome!

Hi nep420_ , the humidity does me in. I have trouble walking and standing so when it is humid my legs just melt from under me. I look for assistance to the nearest chair and air conditioning. I grew up in Bergen county. Where are you from?

nep420 Unfortunately, humidity can affect MS (or at least my version of it). Here in Virginia, summer is always hot and steamy, especially this summer with all the rain. I probably wouldn't survive very long without AC, because even short jaunts outside make my legs leaden and walking is like pushing through waist deep molasses. The whole Mid Atlantic region (which includes Delaware and parts of New Jersey) is similar as I recall from a dozen years in Delaware. You're sure to find lots of friends here in the health unlocked community. Howdy!

Yes the heat/humidity makes MS be 10X’s worst! Try to stay cool!

Yes! I live in Delaware . when it is humid outside I stay in. It makes me feel very foggy and sometimes even my speech is affected. Cooling wraps can help. I had read that any extreme, heat, humidity or extreme cold can make symptoms flair up. I am so ready for the cooldown of Fall! if I have to be out, I will wet a bandana and wrap it around my neck and my wrists, and if it gets real bad, you can take a shower when you get in and turn the water gradually cooler and cooler and cool down your core. Usually I stay in a lot in the summer. Fall is coming! Hang on! :)

Heat and Humidity are bad, but it's the humidity that really does me in. I'm very frugel on my disability budget, and limit the air conditioning to the bedroom. I do however use a dehumidifier elsewhere in the house, and do ok. I tested this theory out to the max a couple years back, intentionally taking a trip back to the southwest, during the summer, in a heatwave when temps were always 110 degrees plus in Phoenix. Spent all day, day after day in the oven in your face, and loved it! It was hot, but not draining. Same thing in Colorado during a heat wave, where all the locals were dying from the unusual heat. Guess I'm like one of the skeletons laying in the sun stating "but It's a dry heat". Hope to move back to the Southwest one day soon. Till then, I'll rely heavily on my economical dehumidifier and my tiny window unit.

This is the first time I've heard humidity singled out as a MS issue. I've heard about heat being an issue many times. I've also experienced MS issues from the cold before.

Yes it can. Try to stay in air conditioning and there are cold compresses you can buy and keep them in

the freezer. Wrap them in a towel and put onyour body. It helped me when our air cond. broke.

Hi nep420,

I am from PA and the heat and humidity here causes my symptoms to be much worse. Once I can cool down they go away fast. If I am in the heat to long, even a couple hours with my cooling aides, it can cause a flare and it might last 3 or 4 days. I try to not get overheated and use cooling products a lot.
