Having a late night mri tonight. Neurologist wants one of my full spine. Only had my head and neck done the first time. Trying not to feel anxious. I did fine with my first ever mri in December one minor moment on the second scan in the serious because it was so loud and made it feel like the tube was spinning.

Mri tonight.
You will be fine. Just close your eyes before you go in and don’t open them until you get out. I think and pray for all the people I know alphabetically and the time just flies. I keep forgetting someone so I make it into a mental game. Let us know how you get on. 🙏 blessings Jimeka 🦋 🍫
Last time I had the open most of the time. Dragonfly and butterfly stickers on the tube looked at the dragon fly off an on. Talked to my dad who had passed away on October and my mom who’s been gone about 20 years. I may try music this time if they ask if I want it. Last time I was anxious because I didn’t know what was going on with me. I had a suspicion but wasn’t sure. This time I know the diagnosis. Hopefully I won’t be to anxious.
Hi, Smartcloud1981 . I usually get my brain and full spine done at the same time. It takes about 2 1/2 hrs for the whole thing, with and w/o contrast. I pass the time by trying to sleep (yes, you actually can despite the klunking and the buzzing), but usually I play "Name That Noise." I listen to all the different sounds the machine makes and try to name them, then imagine actually being there. For example, I have identified noises that sound like: ray guns; the war in Vietnam (guess I'm dating myself with that one); a pneumatic jackhammer. When I hear the ray guns, I feel like a character in Star Wars, wearing a space suit and shooting it out with aliens that look like the ones in the Roswell, NM Welcome Center; when I hear the war I imagine I am in college again watching the broadcasts on nightly network news; when I hear the jackhammer I am walking down the streets of NYC! Sometimes, I count the number of shots from the ray gun on the left side and see if they're equal to those on the right--they aren't. One has 6, the other 7, and sometimes one has 5 and the other 6. Trust me on this, or try it yourself! The klunking that precedes these noises, at least the first 3 or 4 klunks, if they were set to music, could be the beginning of the Jimi Hendrix song "Purple Haze." The thing is, spending hours in a metal tube having your ears assaulted is time in your life you'll never get back, kind of like watching a bad movie. So be very creative and you can actually make the time go more quickly! Good luck!
With my first one I did pretty ok. Except when it got really loud and felt like everything was moving. Then I just calmed talked to my dad in my head. He had just passed away a few months before. I’m tired enough maybe I can zone out an sleep we will see. I also had my eyes open part of the time on the last one and just looked at the stickers of a dragonfly they had on the tube.
I usually just sleep until they pull me out of the tube. 😊
Nothing like a good old Ativan to pass the time
I'll be praying for good results and no lesions, as well as for your ability to get through it easily. Let us know how you did.
Hi Smartcloud1981 I had full brain and spine MRI last November and it was about 1 hour and 40 mins. I took some music (Adele) 😊😊😊. And i managed to zone out. Hope it goes well for u im definitely not as anxious now because I know the diagnosis. Good luck chuck u will be fine xxxxx
I had the brain, neck, and spine done all together.
This time the girls suggested a towel over my eyes. I tried it and somehow felt safer.
I never open my eyes.
Good luck!
Depending on who does your MRI, they will put a towel over your eyes. I usually count the time between the time beeps or when the bed starts to move to the next section of the scan. Sometimes I am able to fall asleep but when I have done that they have to wake me up and redo some of the scans because my leg spams make scans blurry. Good luck!! Keep us updated on how your scan goes!!

Hope your MRI went well I'm having one on Tuesday. Did they ask if you wanted to be sedated? I think I was sedated last time I had one. Also offered music. It wasn't as bad as expected. But this time I have back pain and tingling. I haven't been able to lay on my back without having spasms for about six months now. So don't know whether I will be able to lay still. Wondering if its too late to ask for sedationbto make the job easier.
I've had the full brain down the spine. It is a long time in the tube! I'm a fairly anxious person anyway but I take sleeping eye covers and ear plugs. I also put some lavender where I can smell it for a bit. I went right to sleep until contrast then back to sleep. I know you already had your MRI so this is late. I hope your results were good ❤
