Neuropathy is a general term to describe some disease or disfunction involving the nervous system. Sometimes it wil be used with other words e,g, Peripheral neuropathy - indicating a problem with the peripheral nervous system or, e.g. Neuropathy of the feet and legs.- obvious !

You might also see something like diabetic neuropathy where the disfunction is caused by diabetes and/or the drugs to treat it.

If someone (hopefully with medical expertise) tells you that you have neuropathy you could say you understand that is a general terms and ask if they can be more specific about which part of the nervous system is faulty, why and in what way,and what can be done about it.

Why are you asking the question ?

Hi,

My Sues original diagnosis was Idiopathic Sensory Polyneuropathy. Which basically meant sensory nerve pain. Sue described it as all over skin pain.

We treated this with various nerve inhibitors such as Gabapentin.

Chat with you GP or Consultant or the MSA nurse.

If you need more information please ask.
